- With heavy hearts the family of Wanda Johnston, 65 of Bishopville, share the passing of a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend. On March 13, 2022, she passed away peacefully in her home ‘on the hill’. Wanda was the proud daughter of Gladys (Atwell) and the late Roy Miner.
In addition to her father, Wanda was predeceased by the love of her life, Shannon Johnston.
Wanda began her early career in radio at AVR. She later worked in local schools as an educational assistant where she exemplified her passion for helping others. After spending a number of years at home raising her children and grandchildren, Wanda ventured to Nunavut. She cherished her time in Iqaluit working in hospitality and schools before joining the airline industry. She fell in love with The North and the many friends she and her husband, Shannon, met there.
Her love of animals began at an early age and is one of the many gifts she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She always had a pet or two or more, but she was most excited to bring her dream to life of owning her own small farm on the family homestead on the hill. It was here on the family farm that she passed on the knowledge and love especially of horses that she had learned from her dad and special aunt, Pearl Myles. Although the farm grew quiet in the recent year it was a wonderful home for many four-legged family members over the years. She will be dearly missed by her little buddy Fern.
Wanda enjoyed a good cup of coffee or tea with great company, many friends and family have enjoyed many cups with good conversation over the years. She found great joy preparing a meal for her loved ones. Among so many things her famous carrot cake and chocolate chip cookies will be dearly missed by many.
A Graveside Service will be held at a later date. A Celebration of Life Gathering for friends and family will held on April 15, 2022 at 2:00 at 1802 Bishopville Rd. Memorial donations may be made to the Bishopville Cemetery or charity of one’s choice.
