    Died:
FORD, Marjorie J. - 1918 - 2012. Marjorie Jessie Ford (née Maclean) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on February 23, 1918, a daughter of Major Dr. Walter L. Maclean, C.A.M.C. (d. 1917) and Lillie Alberta \'Allie\' Boak Maclean (née Umlah, d. 1994). Raised by her mother in Halifax, Vancouver, and Bermuda, Marjorie attended the Halifax Ladies’ College and St. Leonards School in St. Andrews, Scotland. She graduated from Dalhousie University in 1939 with a B.A. in English and Biology. While at Dalhousie, Marjorie was an enthusiastic member of the Glee Club and a frequent contributor to the Dalhousie Gazette. Marjorie was first married in 1943 to Surgeon-Lieutenant Hugh M. Henderson, R.C.N.V.R. (d. 1944). She subsequently married Dr. Charles M. Jones in 1953 (d. 1968) and Dr. William L. Ford in 1970 (d.1992). An active volunteer with the YWCA, Marjorie served one term as President as well as being a longtime Sustainer in the Junior League. Over the years, she enjoyed collecting antiques, belonged to investment, garden, and book clubs, The Antiquarian Club, and took up tai chi. Marjorie felt fortunate to have been able to travel widely, accompanying her husbands on their work to Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Iceland, the Azores, Martinique, and St. Lucia. Both Charlie Jones and Bill Ford were avid sailors so Marjorie spent much time in and around boats and boatyards. In her later life, Marjorie made many trips with Bill up and down the East Coast and farther afield to Mallorca, Greece, and the Baltics. A true Haligonian, Marjorie also had deep ties to Hantsport and the Annapolis Valley, where her mother lived. Here, she spent several years as a young mother and war widow and would continue returning with her family for summer vacations. In 2009, due to failing health, Marjorie relocated to Peterborough, Ontario, to be close to family. She died in Centennial Place, Millbrook, Ontario on June 10th. Interment will be in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, at a later date after which there will be a private celebration of her life. In memory of Marjorie, friends are welcome to make a donation to the YWCA of Halifax.
