    Evelyn Blanche Durland (RN), age 84, died peacefully July 10, 2018 at Windsor Elms in Falmouth. Evelyn was born on
    November 10, 1933 in Deep Brook, daughter of the late Percy H. Durland and Jenny F. Durland.

    Evelyn attended Deep Brook Elementary School and Hantsport High School. She then attended Dalhousie School of Nursing and becoming an RN in 1955. Evelyn began her training at Payzant Memorial Hospital in Windsor and eventually trained other nursing students. She also worked as a nurse in Vancouver and then returned home and worked at Hants Community Hospital, becoming night supervisor.

    Evelyn was well known by all staff for her practical jokes. She loved animals and had many adored dogs (Cuddles and Boo) and cats. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially during the holidays when she loved to shop and give gifts. Her hobbies included knitting, embroidery and playing crokinole.

    Evelyn was a very special Aunt to her nieces and nephews and will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity.

    She was predeceased by her niece, Jessica, and her brother, Clare and his wife Joan.

    A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 2pm at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, 59 Main Street, Hantsport. Rev. David Curry officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.

    DURLAND, Clare Herbert (LLB, QC) (Ret’d)

    Age 79, died Sunday, May 27, 2018 in Orchard Court in Kentville, surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Clare was born in Bear River, son of the late Percy H. Durland and Jenny F. Durland. He attended Deep Brook Elementary School and Hantsport High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Acadia University in 1959, and an LLB degree from Dalhousie Law School in 1962. Clare was admitted to the Bar in Nova Scotia in 1962, and practiced law in Middleton from 1962 until 1997. He served as a member of the Barrister Council of Nova Scotia from 1971 - 1974, and was the President of the Western Counties Barrister Society from 1973 to 1975. He was appointed to the Queen’s Counsel in 1978. Clare married Joan Ann Webber in 1962. They resided in Middleton, where they cherished time with their family and many wonderful friends. Family time revolved around their many sporting and community interests, frequent debates, and quiet time at their cottage in Mahone Bay. Joan passed away in 1996. Clare married Blanche Patterson in 1998 and continued to reside in Middleton. Clare was very proud of his faith and he believed deeply in the importance of giving back to his community. He was a past Chairman of the Board of Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton Board of Trade, Middleton Development Corporation, Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations, and the Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation. He was a warden, lay reader and Eucharistic Minister of the Anglican Parish of Wilmot, as well as a delegate to the Diocesan, Provincial and National Synods of the Anglican Church. Clare loved sports and was active athletically for his entire life. He was a member of the Hantsport Shamrocks Baseball Club in the 1950’s, and an active member and past President of Eden Golf and Country Club. He was an exceptionally accomplished hockey coach, inspiring the lives of many young local athletes. He won two provincial championships with the Middleton Mustangs Hockey Club, and coached for a season with the Valley Midget Wildcats AAA Hockey Club. He is a member of the Middleton Sports Heritage Wall of Fame. The family would like to acknowledge all of Clare’s wonderful friends who provided so much love and support during his battle with Alzheimer’s, and to especially thank his care givers at Orchard Court in Kentville for their extraordinary efforts which helped to make Clare’s final year comfortable and dignified.

    Kendall Eugene Durland, age 79, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, in Windsor.

    Ken was born on November 26, 1940, in Deep Brook, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia and was the youngest son of the late Percy H. Durland and Jenny F. (Jefferson) Durland.

    Ken lived the majority of his life in Hantsport. He worked for many years at Fundy Gypsum Company in Hantsport. He loved animals, having many pets including dogs, cats, and a horse. He always enjoyed eating scallops and lobsters and the family often attended Scallop Days in Digby in the summer. Ken loved fishing, especially at his camp in Bishopville.

    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Jessica; his sister, Evelyn; and his brother, Clare and his wife, Joan.

    Due to Covid 19 restrictions, the funeral will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.
