    ETTER (Brown), Cora Helena

    A shining light has been extinguished. Cora Helena Etter (Brown), of Shubenacadie/Belnan, passed away on August 19, 2020. Born in Bishopville near Hantsport in 1924, she was the daughter of late James and Cora Brown. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Malcolm Etter; second husband, Walter Withrow; brothers, Arthur, Acil, Jimmie, Avery; and sisters, Shirley and Phyllis. She was the last surviving member of her family. Cora was an active member of Shubenacadie United Church, and taught Sunday school and Explorers. She was a Charter Member of the East Hants Historical Society, East Hants Chamber of Commerce and a founding member of the Shubenacadie Tinshop Museum. Cora graduated from Provincial Teachers College in Truro and then the Maritime College of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Clerk and with her husband Mac they operated the Shubenacadie Drug Store and Elmsdale Pharmacy. She later opened Stewiacke Pharmacy and over the next number of years she operated many businesses and assisted many other women entrepreneurs. Cora pursued her interest in politics and public affairs all her life and served as Municipal Councillor in East Hants representing Shubenacadie for almost 20 years and was elected as MLA for Hants East in the Nova Scotia Legislature in 1984. Cora was one of the first women to be inducted into the Atlantic Business Women’s Hall of Fame and in 1993 was honoured by the Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year, as the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award. After Cora retired from business she continued to volunteer, travel and spent time with her family. Away from public view she helped many others. Cora firmly believed that there was no limit to what women could achieve. She will be remembered as an incredible woman whose entire life changed when she was widowed at age 47. She played a difficult hand very well. We will always miss you Mother. A private family-only burial will take place on Thursday, August 27th and a public celebration of life will take place in Shubenacadie United Church in September.

    Age 85, of Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, passed away peacefully August 1, 2019, with family by her side. Born April 17, 1934 in Wolfville, she was a daughter of the late Leora (Tracey) and James Vaughan. Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her son, Richard Vaughan; sisters, Gwen Crane, Christine Boudreau and infant sister, Sylvia; brothers, Arthur, Leo and Clyde. Shirley grew up in a large family who loved to gather for music and laughter. She always made sure there was always room for one more at the dinner table. Shirley had an impact on everyone she met and will be dearly missed by many. Special thanks to the staff at Windsor Elms for all their loving care of Shirley.

Born in Lockhartville, he was a son of the late James and Leora (Tracey) Vaughan. He worked for Irving Oil Limited as a burner technician for 35 years, retir­ing in 1997. He was a loving son, broth­er, husband, uncle and a friend to all. He was an active member of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, serving for many years with the Anglican Cur­sillo Movement and Alpha Program. Clyde enjoyed playing his guitar and brought joy by playing with a group of Christian friends at the VON Adult Day Care and Grand View Manor, Ber­wick. He had a hobby collecting postcards. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mabel Nauss; sisters, Christina Boudreau, Gwen Crane and infant sister, Sylvia; brother, Arthur. Inter­ment will be held in Garden of Rest, St. James Parish, Kentville.

    Age 62, of Windsor, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 at home. Born in Wolfville, he was the son of Shirley (Vaughan) Skipper, Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth.

    Rick was a former member of the Windsor Fire Department and was a former member of Hants County Branch No. 009, Windsor and current member of Calais Branch No. 162, Lower Sackville of the Royal Canadian Legion. He loved hunting, singing, dancing, his cat \"Charlie\" and his old car, his 1984 Camaro. Rick especially loved playing with his grandchildren, even when they would paint his nails. He will be sadly missed by all.

Judy had an avid love for horses, she loved to crochet afghans and doilies for her friends and family as well as cooking and baking. Fondly known as \'Judge Judy\', she was a mother to everyone and helped all who were in need. Predeceased by brother-in-law, Garnet Mason. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.

Born in Wind­sor, on September 29, 1956, she lived the majority of life in Hantsport, touching people’s lives not only with her beautiful voice but with her loving ways where ever she was. She was em­ployed as a waitress starting out at R&G’s in Hantsport where she was known for her hugs and red lipstick kisses and songs for special occasions. She spent the last 11 years in Sas­katchewan continuing to work as a waitress touching many lives. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by grandpar­ents, James and Leora (Tracey) Vaughan, Mackenzie and Ethel (Bond) Grimm, and her first husband, Lionel Hiltz.
