    Notes:

    Died:
ROONEY, Arthur 'DeWitt' Foster — 85, Mount Denson, passed away in Windsor Elms Village on September 19, 2011. Born in Mount Denson on January 14, 1926, he was a son of the late Athlon and Eva (MacDonald) Rooney. Known by his army buddies as 'Micky', DeWitt joined the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War and served on the Halifax waterfront assisting with the troop ships upon their return from overseas. His military career took him to Egypt and Cyprus in 1957 and CFS Alert, Ellesmere Island, in 1969. He was stationed in Debert, Aldershot and finished his career at CFB Halifax retiring in 1977. After retiring from the military, he worked for the Department of Transportation in Brooklyn, Hants Co., until 1987 as a truck driver and snow plow operator. DeWitt would spend hours working in his large vegetable garden before and after he retired; he was famous for the amount of tomatoes he grew and was never timid about trying to plant something out of the ordinary. Neighbours, co-workers, family and friends benefited from DeWitt’s bountiful garden. Many will remember DeWitt for his apple cider; some fondly while others not so much. Another passion was wine making, he grew grapes long before it was popular in the Valley to grow them and would make wine from beets, potatoes or many types of berries, if it could be fermented DeWitt would give it a try. He loved going on bus tours to Maine to see Stacey’s Country Jamboree every chance he could and would entertain the others on the bus with his jokes and wonderful sense of humour. DeWitt was predeceased by his wife, Jeanne; son, Claude; brother, Sheldon Rooney. Private family interment will follow in St. John the Evangelist Parish Cemetery, Windsor.
