    One of Last Schooner Captains Dies at 92 Hantsport - Capt. Charles Foster Barkhouse died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ivan Oickle at Hantsport. He was 92. He was one of Nova Scotia's last schooner captains. Born at Medford, Kings County, Capt. Barkhouse was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barkhouse. He lived in Hantsport most of his life. He was a sea captain for 44 years and worked for 22 years as an engineer with the Minas Basin Pulp and Power Company. He was a member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church. During his career at sea he was shipwrecked four times. He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Scott of Avonport; one son Charles, Hantsport; four daughters, Mrs. Ralph Harris, Hantsport; Mrs. Bert Willigar, Parrsboro; Mrs. Fred Best, Hantsport; and Mrs. Ivan Oickle,, Hantsport; four stepsons George, John and Cecil, all of Hantsport, and Fred Scott in California; one sister, Mrs. John Burns, Canning; a half brother, Leonard, Kentville, a half sister Effie (Mrs. George Bennett), Steen Mills, Kings County, and 19 grandchildren. The body is at Lindsay's Funeral Home, Windsor. Funeral will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrews Church, Rev. Bordon Pyke officiating. Burial will be in Hantsport Cemetery.

    Age 83 of Hantsport, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 22, 2019 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Hantsport on January 9, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Captain Charles and Florence (Fields) Barkhouse. Maude worked at the Hantsport Juice Plant and Canadian Keyes Fibre for years. She was a member of Avon United Church. In her spare time she loved playing cards, doing the Friday Lexicon in the paper, going for walks with friends and especially her visits with family. Maude was predeceased by her husband, Ivan; brothers, Charles Barkhouse, Fred Scott, John Scott, Cecil Scott and George Scott; sisters, Susie Starratt and Aileen Best. The family would like to say thank you to the staff of the Annapolis Valley VON branch for their care given to Maude.

    It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda after a long heartbreaking decline inflicted on her by Alzheimer’s. She passed away with family by her side at the Windsor Elms, on Jan 30 2023.

    Linda was born in Hantsport and was the daughter of June and the late Graham Sanford. She was predeceased by father, Graham and sister Cathy King, sister in law Edith Buxton, and a very dear Aunt, Mildred Sanford.

    Family was everything to Linda. Mom loved gardening, camping, beach combing, music, sewing and baking. Linda also loved her cats, they brought her comfort.

    There will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda's memory may be made to the "Windsor Elms Village".

Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of June (Morgan) and the late Graham Sanford. Cathy was a loving wife, moth­er, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She loved poetry, cook­ing, baking, craft­ing and spending time with her grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her.
    She really enjoyed the simple things in life; She loved to cruise in her \'Sassy’69\' Beaumont which was as spunky as she was. Al­though diagnosed with MS in her late 30s, she never let it slow her down. Those who knew her well would say that she had a strong constitution and a zest for life. She was prede­ceased by her father, Graham; moth­er-in-law, Mona (Shaw); father-in-law, Foster; and sister-in-law, Edith Johnson.

    It is great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, Dale Anthony Connors, age 68, on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at home. Born in Hantsport, he was the son of the late Howard and Betty (Morgan) Connors.

    Dale was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who will be deeply missed. He worked in construction his entire life. Spending the majority of his career at Lindsay's Construction, specializing in tilt up buildings. He was a safety officer and foreman. He could be a hard man to work for, but he loved what he did and his crew respected him.

    Dad had few passions, but those he had, he enjoyed immensely. In his younger days, hunting with the boys at the camp was something he looked forward to every hunting season. He loved the woods. Having cut the majority of the trails in Falmouth, he loved being out on the ATV but most of all he loved spending time in his garage. That was his happy place and where he spent his final moments.

    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Earl and Winnifed Henshaw; sister-in-law, Gloria Sherman and his beloved golden retriever, Keely, his best bud.

    The family would like to thank all the first responders who were dispatched and arrived so quickly, especially EHS and the Windsor Fire Department.

    Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no funeral held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dale may be made to Windsor Fire Department, PO Box 627, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 or to a charity of one’s choice.

    It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie Viola (Faulkner) Benedict, age 89, of Lockhartville. She was a daughter of the late Frank and Alma (Morgan) Faulkner. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Benedict; grandson, Andrew Power; son-in-law, Robert Power; brother, Frederick Faulkner; brothers-in-law, Ronald Clark and David Doyle; and sister-in-law, Joan Faulkner. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 22nd in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Hantsport; Rev. Tom Henderson and Rev. Edwin Ebsary officiating. Interment will take place in St. George’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Falmouth. Donations in memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church.
