    Age 95, passed away June 15, 2014, in Northwood Ivany Place. Muriel was the youngest daughter of the late George and Bessie (Benedict) Greene. She resided in Nova Scotia all her life. Born in 1918 in Bishop­ville, Kings Co., she was married in Bishopville, and then moved to Hantsport, where they lived for sev­eral years before moving to Tren­ton- New Glasgow-Linacy. During the war Muriel was involved with the ladies auxiliary doing war work and with the second New Glasgow Boy Scout Auxiliary. The Joy family moved to Halifax in 1954, then to Dartmouth in 1960, where Muriel was involved in square dancing, joining the Merry Millars dance group, then the Tartan Twirlers, and later the Nova Scotia Rhythm Clog­gers. She was a long-time member of Woodlawn United Church, a life member of Falmouth Women’s In­stitute, did child care for family and friends, was also a member of the Dartmouth Handcrafters Guild. She was one of the first members of the Dartmouth Senior Choir, starting a square dance group for the seniors at the Senior Service Centre, just af­ter the opening of the new centre. Muriel enjoyed the time she worked at Woolco department store. League bowling was also a favorite of Muriel’s; she received many tro­phies and joined the Golden Age League. Golfing was also a pastime which she enjoyed both on the course and watching at home on TV. She and her husband James enjoyed camping; they travelled throughout Canada and the United States and entertained campers at their cot­tage. Being a keen gardener, she en­joyed neighbours stopping by to talk flowers and shrubs. She was predeceased by her husband, James Douglas Joy; sisters, Stella New­come, Ruth Patterson, Pauline Tra­cey, Marjorie Pearson; brother, Robert Greene; grandson, Kevin Lynch.

    Muriel married James Douglas Joy on 2 Feb 1935 in Bishopville, Kings, Nova Scotia. James (son of James Joy and Maizo Tamar Wells) was born about 1913 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
