    Notes:

    Died:
Frederic (Fred) Allen Patterson, 91 of Coldbrook Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at Valley Regional Hospital on April 26, 2022. He was born in Wolfville Nova Scotia, to the late Evelyn (Harvie) and Everett Patterson on March 4, 1931. He was the youngest son, and second youngest from a family of 6. Growing up during WW2, he loved to play baseball and he watched 3 of his older brothers go off and serve, but he was still too young to go by the time the war ended.

He had various jobs at a young age, including working in the Hantsport NS lumber mill, but he soon found his calling as he watched the United States Gypsum Company ships go up and down the Avon River into Hantsport. Sometime, in the early 1950’s he decided to head to the shipping office to see if they would have him. In about a weeks’ time he was on a ship that would ultimately take him places up and down the eastern seaboard, as far as Mexico, for close to the next 25 years. He ended up serving on a good number of the ships in the fleet and continued to go to school to eventually earn a marine engineering ticket and later, his Stationary Engineering certification. After retiring from the US Gypsum Company in the mid 1970’s, he went to work for Avon Valley Greenhouses in Falmouth NS, helping to run and maintain their boiler systems and plant maintenance. In 1977, he was asked to relocate, and become the plant manager for Scotia Greenhouses in Woodville NS, where he remained until his retirement in 2006 at the age of 75. He was a person of many talents when it came to fixing or building anything mechanical or electrical.

In his younger days he was an avid hunter and snowmobiler and later in life at age 70, he bought his first of several boats that he completely refurbished and used for fishing flounder and mackerel. He always enjoyed watching hockey and baseball and was a big fan of the Montreal Canadiens.

He was predeceased by his wife Marie, and son Frederick Jr., along with his sister Jean and brothers Gordon, Frank, and Arthur.

The family would like to thank the many health care professionals at Valley Regional Hospital who worked hard to keep Fred comfortable during his final days.

By request there will be no service and cremation has already taken place.
