    William “Bill” Raymond Porter, age 88, of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at the Windsor Elms Village, located on the former Porter family farm, Falmouth. Born on June 11, 1924, in Hantsport, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Leslie H. and L. Elizabeth “Bib” (Dickson) Porter. He was a long-time Falmouth farmer, owner and operator of William R. Porter Greenhouses, where he grew early transplants of tomatoes, cukes and cut flowers. He loved to tinker and could fix just about anything, from watches to lawn mowers, and he was a self-taught welder. Besides his parents, Leslie H. and L. Elizabeth “Bib” (Dickson) Porter; he was predeceased by brothers, Charles D. Porter; Leslie H. Porter; Montson E. Porter and John C. Porter. Interment was in the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth, followed by a reception at the Lindsay Family Reception Centre, 184 King Street. Family flowers only.

    Age 90, of Falmouth, Hants Co., passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016, in Windsor Elms Village, the former family property \'Belleview Farm\'. Born on February 19, 1926, in Hortonville, Kings Co., Irvin was the last surviving son of the late Leslie and Elizabeth \'Bib\' (Dickson) Porter. Irvin was a good man and was much-loved. He was proud to be one of the Porter boys; his family and extended family; and his Second World War Air Force overseas service. He enjoyed fishing, camping, the cottage, spending time in the woodlot with his brothers; road trips with Les and Sue and Fin and Marion. He enjoyed his self-taught woodworking skills, and many have a piece of his handiwork. Beside his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Dick, Les, Mont, Bill and John Porter and seventh son, cousin, Ralph Knowles.

    1922 - 2014. The family of the late Olive Marie (Por­ter) Dodge are saddened to share that Olive passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014, at the age of 91. The first child of the late Albert and Hulda (Lenihan) Porter, Olive lived the last 10 years of her life in Fal­mouth/ Windsor, where she grew up as a child. Olive lived the majority of her life in Fall River on the shores of the waterfront she loved so much, Lake Thomas. Olive moved from Fall River in August 2004 and moved to Gladys Manning Retire­ment Home in Windsor, where she lived for seven years, moving to Dy­keland Lodge, and then The Elms in Falmouth, where she lived for the past 18 months. Olive was prede­ceased by her husband of 47 years, Charles L. \'Bud\' Dodge, in May of 2001. She was predeceased by her siblings, Stanley Porter (Windsor), Everett Porter (Windsor), Donald Porter (Hantsport), Maxine (Porter) Trask (Sydney); brothers-in-law, Ronald Sheehy (Falmouth) and Carl Dodge (Fall River); as well as sisters-­in-law, Donna Dodge (Halifax), Dorothy Porter (Hantsport), and Shirley Porter (Falmouth). Olive was an RN, graduating from the VG School of Nursing in 1946. She worked at the Halifax Infirmary for most of her career, but also worked at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Mass. Olive was a lifetime member of the UCW (United Church Wom­en) and over her life served on the PTA at Fall River School, the Wom­en’s Auxiliary of the Cheema Aquat­ic Club, was a regular participant in Engineering Wives events. An avid knitter, Olive was known to knit most of Bud’s socks. With the use of multiple rubber bands, Olive always found a new purpose for an item that it was never designed for. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care providers who looked after Mum over the years: Theresa, Barb, Doreen, and Rosemary at the Manning, and so many of the wonderful nurses, LPNs and CCAs at Dykeland and The Elms.

    Porter, Donald Willis Sr., age 84, Hantsport, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2010, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on August 12, 1925, in Falmouth, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Albert Judson Porter and Hulda Blanche (Lenihan) Porter. He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 46 years, Dorothy (Demings) Porter, in July 1996. Dad began his career in sales at age 17, working for his uncle, George Lenihan in Kentville. He and Mum were married in Hantsport, in October 1949, and beginning in January 1950, he worked for Hants Wholesalers, Windsor, and then Halifax Wholesalers in Halifax. In 1965, he made the move to CKF Inc., Hantsport, from where he retired as Sales Manager Atlantic in 1989. He was devoted to supporting his wife and family. Visits from grandchildren and more recently, great grandchildren were cherished. He always looked forward to his visits to his second family at R & G's Family Restaurant, for coffee and conversation, where he spent many an enjoyable hour. Anyone who knew Dad was aware of his passion for the stock market, his love of playing solitaire, and his ability to keep winning at cribbage until the very end. Besides his parents and his wife, Dorothy; he was predeceased by brothers, Stan Porter and Everett Porter; brothers-in-law, Charles "Bud" Dodge; Ronald Sheehy; Walter Chipman; and sister-in-law, Shirley Porter. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. There was no visitation, funeral or flowers by request. Family and friends were welcomed to a committal service for Dad, at Riverbank Cemetery, Riverbank Drive, Hantsport, 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27th, 2010. The Rev. Glennis Smith officiated, followed by a reception at the family home, 7 Maple Avenue, Hantsport, after the interment. Donations in memory were requested to be made to the Hantsport Food Bank (PO Box 545, Hantsport, NS - B0P 1P0); the Hantsport Fire Department (PO Box 503, Hantsport, NS - B0P 1P0) or to a charity of your choice. Born on April 6, 1929, in Falmouth, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late Albert and Hulda (Lenihan) Porter. Rachel enjoyed knitting, watching curling and the blue jays. She always had one finger on the phone. She was the unofficial historian of Falmouth and surrounding areas. She always enjoyed her years with her husband Ron and family at the cottage on Mockingee Lake. Rachel was a friend to many. Rachel was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Rachel was predeceased by her husband, Ron; daughter-in-law, Kristie Sheehy; four brothers; two sisters. Rachel's family would like to extend a special thank you to niece, Carolyn Archibald and the staff of the QEII for the loving care provided to Rachel. .Graveside service will be held in Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth.

    Age 74, of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 in the VG Site - QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born on May 1, 1950 in Payzant Memorial Hospital, Windsor, Jean was the eldest daughter of Thelma (Quinn) and the late Irvin Porter.

    Jean was loved by her family and friends. She had a passion for learning and was excited to share new information and skills. She enjoyed reading, watching documentaries, crafting and taking classes of interest. She enjoyed genealogy, diligently researching her family for years. Jean was a passionate textile artist. She followed her childhood dreams of learning to quilt and rug hook, being inspired by both of her grandmothers. This provided an outlet for Jean to express her artistic talents. Family and friends are fortunate owners of her artwork, which will continue to bring them joy from Jean into their homes.

    Jean valued her family and friendships deeply. She was always welcoming to new people she met. “Nan” was a loving, positive role model for her grandchildren. She was able to share her creativity and sense of fun with them whether it was playing games such as Chinese checkers and cards, decorating together for holidays, crafting, designing rug hook chair mats or tea parties.

    The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Victoria General Hospital for all of their efforts supporting Jean.

    A celebration of life will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 2 in the Wellwood Community Hall at Hantsport Baptist Church, 6 Willow St., Hantsport. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6.

    Cameron Randolph Porter, 70, of Port Williams, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2023, in Valley Hospice. Cameron was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia to the late Donald and Dorothy Porter. He grew up in Hantsport and attended schools in Hantsport and Windsor. Cameron graduated from Acadia University in 1978 with a degree in Business Administration. He began an articling position with Touche Ross, but after eighteen months decided he enjoyed accounting and not auditing. Cameron worked for MAI Canada Ltd., in Dartmouth as a computer programmer before moving to Ontario where he worked for a variety of companies. Over time he worked up to a Senior Systems Analysist position, eventually starting his own business. In 1995 he returned home, continuing to work with several clients in Ontario until 2010 when he "retired". He worked on local farms, for several years, a job he enjoyed. Cameron was a member of the Port Williams United Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir and was treasurer for many years. Family-only interment will be held at Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. Cameron’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the medical personnel who assisted him at various times over the past year and all those who visited during his time at home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association, 6331 Lady Hammond Road, Halifax, Nova Scotia B3K 2S2; the Port Williams United Baptist Church, PO Box 301, Port Williams, NS B0P 1T0; or a charity of your choice.
