- It is with great sadness we announce the death of Fay Pearl (Coolen) McGinn, 92, of Halifax, formerly Hantsport, on July 31, 2023. Born in Fox Point on July 23, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Kirby Hall and Marion Estelle (Westhaver) Coolen.
Fay was a proud registered nurse, graduating from the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing in 1952. In 1954 Fay met Joseph (Joe), who would become her cherished partner for more than 60 years.
Fay’s life revolved around her family and the small town of Hantsport where supporting your neighbors and community made a difference, serving as an incredible role model for her family. Fay was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, secretary for Home & School and volunteered regularly at the Red Cross Blood Donor clinics. She also contributed her much loved baking to events at the Community Centre, local Church teas and neighbors at Christmas time. Summer was Fay’s favorite time of year – enjoying the views of the Avon River, tending to her large vegetable gardens and her regular swims in the ocean at Hubbards, inspiring family beach days.
She supported her children in all their endeavours, whether academic, athletic or musical. She was proud of her 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Fay was the last surviving member of her family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Elsie and Jean in infancy, brothers Charles, Lester, Bernard, Wilfred and Douglas; and her husband Joseph McGinn in 2016.
A family graveside service will be at 11:00 am Friday, August 4, 2023 at Riverbank cemetery. Everyone is welcome to attend a reception that follows at 11:45 am at the Churchill House, Hantsport Memorial Community Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hantsport Memorial Community Centre (HMCC) through an etransfer to hmccinfo@gmail.com or to P.O. Box 412 Hantsport NS B0P 1P0.
