- ANDERSON, Kathlyn May 'Kay'
After a long and wonderful life, Kay passed away peacefully on September 19, 2015 in Glasgow Hall, Shannex Parkland at the Lakes, Dartmouth. She was born on September 3rd, 1920 in Hantsport to Morey and Walter Comstock. Following school Kay moved to Halifax and obtained her RN from the Children's Hospital. She married Dr. Thomas Anderson and they had two daughters - Barbara and Joan. Kay was an avid gardener and spent many hours tending to her beautiful gardens. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed traveling. Kay enjoyed playing golf and played into her eighties. Her passion was the growing of African violets for show purposes. For many years, Kay's home-grown flowers won first prize in numerous categories at the annual Halifax African Violet Show. A Life Membership in the First Halifax African Violet Society was bestowed on Kay in 2006. She was also awarded an Honorary Award by the African Violet Society of Canada for 'Outstanding Service to the Object of the Society'. Kay was a kind and generous individual who gave to many charities. She valued her many friendships. She was very proud of her daughters and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Thomas; brother, George and sister, Ruby (Wyman). Sincere thanks go to the Newfoundland ladies, Bernice and Ann, for the care given to Kay at home and to the dedicated staff of Shannex's Drummond and especially Glasgow Hall. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, September 24 in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 25 in the J.A. Snow Memorial Chapel. Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to a charity of choice.
