- It’s with unbearable sadness that we, the family of Dean Alfred Benedict, age 70, of Hants Border, Kings County, announce his passing on Sunday, November 16, 2025, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax, due to complications from heart surgery.
Dean was predeceased by his father, Alfred Wilson and mother, Stella May (Greenough), both of Mount Denson; as well as infant brother, Terry Richard(born and deceased on March 14, 1961).
Dean worked for the Nova Scotia Provincial Government (Department of Natural Resources) for 27 years. He had retired in the Spring of 2024 as the Manger of Crown Lands Information Management Centre / Registrar of Crown Lands. In the earlier years of his career, he was a Nova Scotia Land Surveyor and formerly owned his own survey business.
Dean will be remembered for his kindness, love of family, his humour, his strong work ethic, his trips to Alberta to see his children and the occasional trip south with his partner, Deborah, his motorhome and “big” tractor. He and his partner had many great trips to Rissers Beach camping by the ocean.
We will love and miss him always; he holds a special place in our hearts.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, November 25 in Hantsport Baptist Church, 6 Willow St., Hantsport, Rev. Jennifer Riley officiating. Private family-only interment will take place in Mount Denson Community Cemetery, after which the family will return to the church’s Wellwood Community Hall to join the public for a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dean may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia; Mount Denson Community Cemetery, or Special Olympics Nova Scotia.
