    • It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Steven Wayne "Steve" Atwell, of Hantsport, in the Valley Regional Hospital, at the age of 66.

Steve was born in Windsor and was one of sixteen children of the late Clinton and Jean (Bonang) Atwell.

Steve started his career with Minas Basin Pulp and Power and dedicated 13 years at the sawmill until its closure. He spent the next 31 years working at Canadian Keyes Fibre Company Limited (CKF). In his final years at CKF he worked as material handler until his retirement in 2020.

As a young man, Steve is remembered as an overall athlete and fierce competitor who enjoyed playing soccer and baseball and could make a real competition out of any game.

Steve’s presence will be dearly missed by all those who knew him and called on him whenever they needed a helping hand. He had a remarkable gift for finding humor in every situation and using his playful spirit to uplift those around him. He will be remembered most for his kind and generous spirit.

Steve spent his life surrounded by the love and support of a large circle of family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Clinton and Jean, he was predeceased by brothers Gary, Leonard and Gordon "Pud".

Steve had a special relationship with each one of his four grandsons. He adored his four boys and was always ready to engage in playful activities and create unforgettable memories with them. Special memories include fishing in the river, chasing waves, catching frogs and turtles, sleepovers, playing hockey, annual zoo visits, and riding on Grampy’s lawn mower. Steve was a steadfast family man, who committed his life to raising his three children and four grandchildren. His role as grandfather brought him immense joy and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

Though Steve may no longer walk alongside us, his spirit will forever remain a guiding light, reminding us to show up for each other, love fiercely and cherish each precious moment.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024 in the Hantsport Baptist Church, Reverend Jennifer Riley officiating. Interment will take place in the Bishopville Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation.
