    • Captain John M. Graham, one of the most prominent steamboat captains in Oregon, died at the family home Wednesday morning after a lingering illness. Captain Graham was known by all the steamboat men along the Willamette River. Arriving in this city about 26 years ago from Nova Scotia ,he formed what is now the Oregon City Transportation Company, but recently disposed of his interest to his sons,of Portland, owing to illness.

Captain Graham was born near Liverpool,England,in May 1833,and he was 77 years of age. He followed the seas when a boy,and later became a vessel owner on the Maine coast and entered the deep water class, sailing across the Atlantic and to the principal ports of the world.Recently he made a trip to California for the benefit of his health, and was returning on the steamer Beaver when she struck and sank the Norwegian steamer Selja.

Before coming to this city he made his home in Nova Scotia, where he was united in matrimony to Marianna Davidson Beckwith in 1858.
Mrs. Graham passed away about two years ago.
Captain Graham leaves the following children: A. B. Graham,A. W. Graham,J.N. Graham,Mrs George Fox,Mrs. William Andresen, and Mrs. A. H. Morrill, all of whom reside in Portland except Mrs. Andresen,of this city.

The funeral services will be conducted at the residence in this city Friday at 2 o'clock,Rev. S. A. Hayworth officiating.
