Born in Lockhartville, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of the late Arthur Lewis and Sarah Amelia (née Walter) Fitzgerald of Nova Scotia [they married in 1889 in Kings County]; brother of Nora Neilson of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada; husband (separation agreement) of Florence Marion Fitzgerald; father of five children.
Fusilier Paul Clinton Fitzgerald is commemorated on Page 13 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.
He is also commemorated in perpetuity by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
