- Spencer, Joyce Marie It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our mother and grandmother, Joyce Marie Spencer. She passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 in the Cardiac Unit, QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax, at the age of 92. Born on December 25, 1931 in Ellershouse, she was a daughter of the late Chester Arnold and Helen Mildred (Lyttle) Williams. In her early years Joyce worked for Minas Basin Pulp and Power in Hantsport as a secretary. She did volunteer work within the community spending many years as the United Church Treasurer for Ardoise. She was also a member of the Newport Corner Ladies Aid and Community Club. After raising five children she worked briefly as an LPN at the Windsor Elms in Windsor. She enjoyed square dancing, social dancing, card parties and bowling. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Arthur Spencer; brother, Ronnie Williams (Thelma); sister, Gloria Maynard (Basil) and sister-in-law, Roberta Best (Ron). We would like to express our sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of the QEII for their compassionate care during the five weeks Mom was in hospital.
