    • It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Emma Lily Horne, who peacefully departed this world on February 13, 2024, at the age of 81. Emma was surrounded by her loving family at the Hants Community Hospital in Windsor, NS, as she embarked on her final journey. Born in Bishops Falls, NL, NF, on October 16, 1942, Emma was the cherished daughter of Walter and Melitta Benson. She was the devoted wife of the late Fred Horne.

In 1979, our family faced a significant change as we moved from NF to NS, expanding from a family of four to a family of eleven overnight. This transition presented a significant challenge for any mother, but Emma faced it head-on without hesitation, demonstrating unwavering strength and resilience. The "Arnold Family" became our new family, and the bond formed during that time remains strong to this day.

Emma retired early from the business world and dedicated her time to volunteering for numerous organizations. Her tireless efforts were recognized when she was presented with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Award. She devoted 37 years to West Hants Ground Search and Rescue, and her selfless spirit extended to her involvement with St. Andrews Anglican Church, the Canadian Red Cross, and several other groups. Emma was always willing to lend a hand and embark on new adventures, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those she touched.

She was predeceased by her brother Lester at birth, and her sisters Rhoda Sutton, Marion Elson, and Nancy Preston. Emma will also be dearly missed by her three four-legged fur babies, Sassyfrass, Gus, and Ozzy.

In accordance with Emma's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral service. Instead, a celebration of Emma's life will be arranged and announced in the near future, most likely in mid to late spring. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity or group of one's choice. In the spirit of our dearly departed mother, we ask you to please be kind to one another and to treat others with compassion.

Emma Lilly Horne will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will continue to inspire and guide us as we navigate life without her physical presence. May her spirit live on in the hearts of those she touched, and may her memory be a blessing to us all. Rest in peace, dear Emma.
