    • It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Ivan Bezanson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on Friday, May 31st, 2024, at the Valley Hospice where he went to sleep peacefully surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness.

Born to Charles Avery and Hilda Bezanson on February 5th, 1941, Charles was one of 6 children who affectionately referred to Port William’s as home. He met the love of his life and best friend Marilyn (Porter) in the early 60’s and on June 15th, 1963, they began an adventure that would span some 61 years. Together they created a beautiful home in Lockhartville, where they raised their 5 children.

Charles had a deep appreciation for reading and learning, he had a vivid imagination and was a self learner, teaching himself to read at an early age, and that began his great passion for books. He loved to learn and loved history and had a remarkable ability to recount details to anyone that would listen. Music also brought him intense joy, and he was always pleasantly surprised when someone recognized the “music” he loved. His great collection of books and records are a testament to the joy these things brought him. “He had a head full of knowledge and a heart full of love.”

As a teenager, Charles began a deep examination of the Bible, his inquisitive nature led him to copies of the Watchtower and Awake magazines, and that began his life as a zealous Christian. He dedicated his life to his God, Jehovah, and was baptized on July 16th, 1960. Together with Marilyn, they served Jehovah side by side while raising their children. Charles loved people and would share Jehovah’s name and his promises for the future with anyone that would listen. His faith was strong throughout his illness, and he recounted Psalms 83:18, “May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth” many times to those who came to visit.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Avery and Hilda, two sisters, Rita and Betty, and his daughter-in-law Bobbi-Lynn.

The family would like to thank the many friends that showed their love and support through this difficult time and especially the palliative care doctors and nurses for their exceptional care during his time at the Valley Hospice.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service, for all who wish to attend, will be held at 3pm on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 2 Baden Powell Drive in Kentville, NS.
