| 770 | Gary Reid Thompson Of West Petpeswick, NS, May 02, 1945 – August 30, 2023, Dad passed away in the early morning of August 30, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family. He fought hard to have more time, and it would be wrong to say he lost his battle. We are grateful to have had this final summer together, filled with grandkids and warm days at home in West Petpeswick. The youngest of four, Dad was born to the late Pearl (nee Pemberton) and Reid Thompson in St. Croix. He grew up in Hantsport and married his high school sweetheart, Glenda (nee Hancock), twice. Together they raised four children and built a wonderful life on the Eastern Shore. Dad was a skilled carpenter. He remarked at how lucky he was to often work where he could look out and take in the beauty of the ocean. He loved hunting and fishing, and in his retirement, learned to play the upright bass. It was through these pursuits that he made many lifelong friends – spending time with some on the Miramichi, and others playing music. He loved a good game of crib and was an original member of the West Petpeswick snooker club, a Thursday night ritual he enjoyed for over 40 years. Dad was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 161. He will be missed by his neighbours, especially after a storm when he’ll no longer show up with his chainsaw or plow. We made a lot of memories through the years, and many were of time spent at Sunken Lake. After Mom and Dad retired, they traded the cottage for winters in Florida and road trips visiting friends and family in Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Ontario, and last fall a final trip to British Columbia. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sibling, David Thompson, and brothers-in-law Barry Hancock and Ron MacFarlane. The funeral will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5 at First United Church in Musquodoboit Harbour with a reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Eastern Marine Branch 161 in Gaetz Brook. | Thompson, Gary Reid (I8452)

| 798 | GRUVER, Adah November 2, 1924 - December 28, 2018. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Adah Gruver, formerly of Halifax and Hantsport. Adah moved to Halifax from Los Angeles, Calif., in 1983, having previously fallen in love with Nova Scotia while visiting her daughter who was studying at Dalhousie. She became a proud Canadian citizen in 1986. After working as an oncology nurse at the Victoria General Hospital (ret. 1985), she moved to Hantsport to be closer to her daughter. In 2006, the family pulled up roots and moved west to Kamloops, B.C., but she never stopped missing her Nova Scotia home and the friends she left behind. Daughter of Alex and Anna Coropoff, Jewish émigrés from Russia, Adah grew up in San Pedro, Calif. Following graduation from high school (1942), she became a Registered Nurse (1946), and subsequently earned her BA in public health (1965). Shortly after graduating from nurses’ training she met and married Bernard Gruver, an aspiring cartoonist (divorced, 1975). They had four children: Jean (deceased), Clifford (deceased), Nancy, and Allison, and lived in Van Nuys, Calif. Adah was a fiercely compassionate humanitarian which motivated her many contributions in nursing, and in her volunteer work. Known as \'Nurse Mom\', she was a school nurse at some of the most challenging schools in Los Angeles (ret. 1982) and founding member of the United Teachers of Los Angeles. She volunteered with VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) (1975-77), helping to improve health care for the disadvantaged. At the Victoria General Hospital, she was known for her compassion and sensitive attention to the emotional needs of cancer patients and their families. Always politically involved, Adah volunteered with the New Democratic Party, serving as President of Alexa McDonough’s Constituency Association (1987-1990), and office manager for two of her campaigns. She was also an active member of the CanGo Grannies, and board member of the BCSPCA, devoting many hours to \'her kitties\' at the Kamloops Branch. These organizations gave her purpose and were also a source of lasting close friendships. An extraordinarily active person, she was an avid reader, travelled the world, and drove herself to gym classes at the \'Y\' until two months before her death from complications of leukemia. Above all, Adah was unconditionally devoted to her family. She was immensely proud of her daughters and their families and was a loving and engaged grandmother and great-grandmother. Adah died at home in the arms of her daughters. She will be remembered for her energy, honesty, generosity, sharp mind, quick wit, and brilliant sense of humour. Adah believed that her legacy was in her family which truly included many good friends. The secret of life, she said, was to \'live it,\' and that she did - in spades. She will be missed. A celebration of her life will be on April 27th, 2 p.m. in the Hal Rogers Activity Centre, Kamloops. | Coropoff, Adah (I4332)
