Rose was employed by CKF Inc. in Hantsport, for over 25 years including roles in production and custodial services. She enjoyed bargain hunting throughout the valley and would stop at every yard sale, playing cards, knitting, cake decorating, camping and travelling to spend time with her family. She was predeceased by brothers, Danny and Jim Murphy; grandson, William "Billy" Cleveland and nephew, Todd Murphy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Connelly-Mckinley Ltd in St. Albert. Born in Wallbrook, she was a daughter of the late Bret and Pearl (Brown) Miner. Thelma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Her strength and spirit will live on forever. She enjoyed being around family, especially while camping or hosting family gatherings and family suppers. She loved playing cards with her sisters and friends. Thelma enjoyed her regular Monday night bingo with Shirley. With kindness she reached out to her community and surrounding communities, always with a helping hand. You always knew she would be there without a doubt. Thelma was first and foremost a homemaker. She was born in Wentworth, Hants Co., on April 10, 1930 to the late Frank and Stella (Fletcher) Phillips. Florence worked as a house mother to the nurses in Payzant Memorial Hospital. Then she went on to work as a Nurses Aid, working in Payzant Memorial Hospital and Hants Community Hospital for 29 years. Florence enjoyed knitting and baking, which she enjoyed sharing with her family and friends. She was Mom and Grammy to her kids as well as every kid in the community. She was loved and respected by all. Florence enjoyed Camping at Fox Mountain Campground. She was always looking for a new team to beat at Washer Toss, the game she loved most. She also loved playing crib and 45’s, bowling and the Seniors Games. Florence will be remembered for her big heart full of love for family and friends. | 571 | Col. Evan Ross Davison, U.S. Army (Ret.), 82, of New Cumberland, PA, died Friday, March 28, 2008, at Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp. He retired as a U.S. Army Colonel and was a Veteran of the Pacific Theater in World War II, the Korean War, and two tours of duty in Vietnam. Among many honors for his military service, Ross was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, the Legion of Merit (twice) and various campaign service medals. Following his Army career, he worked for the former Dougherty and Twigg Real Estate Company, which then became Jack Gaughen Realtor. He attended St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, and was a member of the Military Officers Association of America; the Chartier Club of New Cumberland, West Shore B.P.O.E. Camp Hill; Riverview Golf Course, New Cumberland, Harrisburg Foreign Policy Assn; and was a 25-year volunteer and former president of West Shore Meals on Wheels. Ross obtained his BS from Syracuse University and his MBA from Babson College in Massachusetts. Born in 1925 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of the late Ernest C. and Christine (Ross) Davison, and was the first in his family to become an American citizen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday in St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, with the Rev. J. Michael McFadden as celebrant. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp. | 574 | Commander John Munro Littlefair (Retired) It’s with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Munro Littlefair in the early hours of Sunday August 5, 2018 at the age of 83 in the Annapolis Royal Community Health Centre, where he had been admitted after suffering a heart attack at home. John passed peacefully surrounded by his beloved wife of 55 years, Elcie, his daughter Nadine and his granddaughter Danielle. Born July 22, 1935 in Toronto, ON, the son of the late John Stuart Littlefair and Dorothy Winifred Munro, beloved and cherished husband of 55 years of Elcie (nee Haliburton), he was predeceased by his brother William and survived by his sister Anne. John proudly served his country in the Royal Canadian Navy for 35 years, as a Marine Engineer. His career began at HMCS Venture, Esquimalt, BC where he graduated as a naval engineer from VENTURE, class of 56. He went on to RNEC Manadon College in Plymouth, England, where he sharpened his skills as an engineer. He served on several naval ships, seeing some tense moments during the Cuban missile crisis, and also spent time at National Defence Headquarters, Ottawa. During the course of his career he attended St Mary’s University during a one-year sabbatical and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Commerce. John was posted to England a few times throughout the course of his career. Besides studying in Plymouth, he also attended the Royal Naval College in Greenwich, England. He and his family particularly enjoyed his last posting to London, England where John served as the Canadian Forces Assistant Naval Attache, at the Canadian High Commission London. At 50 he ran the London Marathon with his son. John finished his career in CFB Esquimalt, and while there earned his parachute wings on the jump course in Edmonton. Both his grandsons have followed in his footsteps and have also received their parachute wings. John retired as Commander, Royal Canadian Navy. In retirement John continued to keep busy, enrolling in various college courses learning everything from woodworking to financial planning. He used his new skills to finish his cottage and build his and Elcie’s beautiful oceanfront home. John continued to be fit and active throughout his life and always found interesting activities and events for his kids and grandkids to join him in. He, and the love of his life, Elcie, also enjoyed travelling the world and completed many marvelous adventures and cruises. His family joined them on several memorable trips. Many special family times and fun memories also centered around the family cottage he built. He was also the treasurer of the Good Neighbours Club and an active member in his community. John had a keen mind, and a good sense of humour. Being around him was never boring. His enthusiasm for life and sense of adventure will be sorely missed. | 577 | Cora Mae J. Sherman We, the Sherman and Sanford families would like to announce the sad passing of our beloved wife and mother, Cora Mae Jean (Sanford) Sherman. Cora was born on January 17, 1931 in Hantsport, to the late Morien and Pearl (Benjamin) Sanford, the eldest daughter of eight. Cora was a kind, compassionate, generous woman, always looking out for someone who needed encouragement, a word of reassurance, or help along the way. She had a way of making you feel special, remembering everyone's birthdays, anniversaries, and other special moments. She taught Sunday school, visited seniors, baked for potlucks, and was a hostess for small groups for over 40 years at Forest Hills Fellowship Baptist Church. She tirelessly cared for her husband, Lee, who sadly passed just four months ago after 66 years of marriage. Mom, we will miss you beyond words. Isaiah 41.10. Born on January 22, 1957 he was a son of the late Corey Brooks and Ruby (Taylor) O’Dell. Corey worked as a lab technician for the Blanchard Fraser and Valley Regional Hospitals, before having to retire early due to illness. He was a former Scouts Canada leader and large supporter of scouting. He loved the outdoors, especially camping and beach-combing. He liked to shop and keep up on the latest trends, styles and new fads. He was rarely idle, keeping busy working and building. He enjoyed travelling and going for drives, and had a passion for music. Corey was a very kind and generous man, and will be dearly missed by those who knew him. | 580 | Cosman, Bradford Robie Buris, aged 72, passed away peacefully after a two year battle with colon cancer, with his loving wife Lorna by his side, on November 18, 2020 at QEII VG Site, 7A Unit, Halifax, NS. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Laurence and Phyllis (MacLeod) Cosman. He grew up in Avonport and moved to Halifax when he was 20. Bradford worked at Haliburtons Farm in Avonport then worked at Camphill Hospital as a baker. He was an avid jogger and would jog for miles, stopping at Tim Horton's along the way in Shearwater. He loved yard work, carpentry work and sitting on his deck listening to music (and loud). He enjoyed phone conversations with his brother Randy, talking about old times. Brad was a man of strong faith, and attended Regal Heights Baptist Church in Dartmouth. Aside from his parents he is predeceased by brothers Michael and Kevin; sister-in-law Monique Rogers. Born in Dawsons Cove, Hermitage, N.L., on April 18, 1927, he was the youngest son of the late Curtis and Dorothy (Roberts) Crewe. He taught school for a few years before leaving Newfoundland in 1949. A businessman all of his life, he owned and managed a BA Service Station in Dartmouth and was in charge of construction and maintenance carpentry for F. W. Robinson. He owned and managed the A. R. Crewe Siding, Doors and Windows Company until his retirement in 1985. While living in Lockhartville, he was a member of Lockhartville United Baptist Church and choir and was Cub Master for Lockhartville Cub Group. He was also a member of Wolfville Curling Club. He loved music and played the violin, guitar and button accordion for his friends and family. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing and barbequing with friends. He was a lifetime member of the Orange Lodge in Hermitage and also a lifetime member of St. Saviours Anglican Church. Mom was a beautiful person who was caring, generous, kind and spirited with an amazing ability to see the best in every person she met. Born in Kentville, he was the son of the late Franklin and Thelma (Lightfoot) Croft. Dad \'Poppy\' took pride in supporting his children in all their sports as they grew up in Hantsport and faithfully chauffeuring us around the province, giving us a pat on the back or a shoulder to cry on. He never said no when an extra driver was needed or a favour was asked. Dad and Mom retired to Sherbrooke Lake where they took pride in living the cottage life and making and entertaining many friends over the years. Dad always lent a hand where needed and took enormous pride in his grandchildren. We will miss him greatly. | 587 | CROSSAN, Emma Louise \'Lou\' Age 92, of Wolfville, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, in the home of her caregiver, Cathy Stewart. Born on March 7, 1922, Louise was the daughter of the late Frederick and Ann (MacKinnon) Nash (of Rockland, Berwick). She was predeceased by her husband, James \'Jim\' Forbes Crossan; her second son, Andrew Boyd Crossan and Andrew’s wife, Faye Lyons Crossan. After graduation from Acadia University, Louise worked as a stenographer at Camp Aldershot during the Second World War. She later volunteered as a receptionist in a hearing and speech clinic during her years as a wife and mother in Kentville. She was an avid participant in community activities, church and university choirs and Meals-on-Wheels, and a frequent performer in Jack Sheriff ’s Summer Playhouse Productions. Lou’s natural grace, strength of character and gentle spirit made her a popular and respected member of the community. She was much loved by all who knew her. The family wishes to extend thanks to residents of Tideways, Valley Regional Hospital staff and Cathy Stewart of Wolfville, as well as all the Annapolis Valley people who were a supportive influence over the years to the Crossan family. | 589 | Cunningham, Cecil James age 92 of Windsor passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Hants Community Hospital. Born in Hantsport, he was the son of the late Hamilton and Verna (Benedict) Cunningham of Mt. Denson. Besides his parents, Cecil is predeceased by his wife of almost 60 years, Eva. Brother Leverette Biff, son Garth, son-in-law Bernard Tack. Cecil was a 25 year veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force Having joined right out of Highschool. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch #009 for 55 years and a 48 year member of the Lions Foundation. Cecil and Eva were Foster parents for many years and looked after a lot of Children some have still kept in touch. Cecil was heavily involved in Minor Hockey and Baseball with his boys and Umpired for many years along with playing sports. He was a proud parent and Grandfather. The family would also like to express their appreciation of the support Cecil received in the Hants Community Hospital from all the Doctors and Nursing Staff. They were all very caring and supportive. A Graveside service will take place on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 1:00pm at Mt. Denson Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will take place immediately following the burial at the Royal Canadian Legion branch #009, 35 Empire Ln, Windsor. | 593 | CUVILIER, Douglas Vaughn April 9th, 1927 - January 28th, 2016. We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, grand father, great-grandfather and friend on January 28th, in Hants Community Hospital. The youngest child of Albert and Leola (Pearson), Dad called Hantsport home after moving there with his parents as a young boy. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Dad was a machinist and machine shop supervisor at Minas Basin Pulp and Power for 43 years, but he was a lifelong tinkerer and builder of all sorts of things from go carts to pontoon boats. Always willing to help out, Dad was a volunteer firefighter for over 21 years as well as serving as a town councilor and Deputy Mayor in Hantsport. He spent many hours in the running and maintenance of the HMCC Pool and served as chair of the Pool Committee on several different occasions. He taught his children and grand children the meaning of volunteering in your community. | 594 | CUVILIER, Phyllis Hazel - 79, Hantsport. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Cuvilier on November 12, 2006, in Haliburton Place, Windsor. Born in Mount Denson, Phyllis was a daughter of the late Hugh and Hazel (Palmer) MacKinlay of Mount Denson. Phyllis was a member of St. James United Church and a life member of the United Church Women. She joined the choir at the age of 16 and stayed a member for over 50 years. She was a well-respected member of her church and community. She loved cooking, playing bridge, and family occasions and gatherings. A kind and caring person, Phyllis was known for her kind words and great love and devotion to her faith, family and friends. In earlier years, Phyllis worked at the Apple Marketing Board, MacKenzies Creamery and after raising her family, she returned to work at Home Hardware. She enjoyed going to Ponhook Lake, it was one of her favourite spots. Phyllis will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her, and whose lives she touched. | 595 | Cuzner Reverend Arthur Edward — Halifax Died peacefully at Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, NS, on the morning of February 3, 2023, at the age of 92 years. He was predeceased by his wife, (Shirley) and daughter, (Maureen). Born in Sydney Mines, NS, and graduating from King's College, Halifax, B.A. (1952) and St. Chad's Seminary, Regina, L.Th ( 1954), Arthur was ordained a deacon in the Anglican Church of Canada by Bishop Michael Coleman on Ascension Day, May 17, 1954, and served his curacy at the Parish of St. Matthew, Regina, Saskatchewan ( 1954-55). He was then ordained a priest and served other parishes in the Diocese of Qu'Appelle - Eston (1955-56), St. George, Moose Jaw (1956-60), before transferring to and serving in the Diocese of Calgary - Lethbridge (1960-65), Castor (1965-1968). He then returned to his native Nova Scotia in 1968 where he served parishes at Hantsport, Falkland, Maitland, Lower Sackville, and Bedford in the Diocese of Nova Scotia and PEI. In 2021 he'd come out of retirement after more than sixty years of ordained ministry to accept a license as Canon of St. Aidan's Cathedral, Halifax, and Rector of St. George, Moser River, in the Anglican Catholic Church, Diocese of Canada East. Arthur was a voracious reader, gregarious conversationalist, and life- long learner, who attended university courses and seminars well into his retirement years. | 596 | Daisy May Wilson, 86 of Hantsport, passed away February 27, 2019 in the Hants Community Hospital. Born in St. John, NB, she was the daughter of the late William and Zillah (Parr) Ackroyd. This beautiful lady was the dream mother of more than just her immediate family. She would knit or crochet baby outfits, bonnets, sweaters, booties and mittens for all the premature babies in the IWK Children’s Hospital. However, being an avid bowler was her favorite hobby. Her career was working at the Windsor Textiles and then on to spend the next 32 years working at CKF. Besides her parents, Daisy was predeceased by brothers Byron, George, Bill, Gerald, Gary and Charles; sisters Frances, Eva and Shirley. | 599 | Daniel Craig Alley, known to his friends as "Big Dan", passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on Oct. 19, 2018 at the age of 62. A native to Junction City, Dan graduated from Junction City High School in 1975. He spent much of his school-age youth working on his families Christmas tree farm in Cheshire, OR. Working hard through the ranks as a young adult, he worked for several local farms, as a both a diesel mechanic and a truck driver. For a short period in his life he owned and operated his own mechanic shop, but ultimately found his way back to his passion for truck driving. The past 25 years he has been the owner and operator of H&T Trucking. Dan has played an avid role in his community, serving as president of operations for various organizations, including: Function 4 Junction, Truck Function in Junction, and the Springfield Car Cruise and Show n\' Shine. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in 2013 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 for 30 years of community service, from the Tri-County Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harold Vaughan II and Wilma Faye Alley, mother-in-law Jean Banton, grandfather, Harold Vaughn Alley and grandmother Bonnie Foster. A benefit fundraiser is planned for Sunday Oct. 28th, 2018 from 3-5pm at Bennet Vineyard. Family is requesting guests to bring photos for a slide show and any memories you\'d like to share. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the \"Dan Alley Memorial Fund\" at any Citizens Bank location. A celebration of life will be held for all that knew and loved \"Big Dan\" on Saturday Nov. 3rd, 2018 at noon. | 600 | DANIELS, David William \'Bill\' Better known as Bill, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 28, 2017. Bill was a quiet and extremely smart man. He lived a life of integrity and truth. He was kind and patient and he had a wonderful sense of humour. It always gave him great pleasure to help family, friends and neighbours. Bill was a true gentleman. Born on November 8, 1934, Bill lived life to the fullest. He trained oxen in his youth and went on to graduate from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, Class of 1954. He worked many different jobs over the years, but primarily as a welder for the Falmouth Machine Shop for eight years and as a hydraulic mechanic for the Nova Scotia Light and Power Company for 22 years. Bill embraced many opportunities to travel and especially loved his trips to Alaska and Iceland. Most of all, he loved his family, his community and his antique Farmall tractors. Bill was predeceased by his parents, David Murray and Annie Whilimena (Knowles) Daniels; sister, Nancy Hebb and brother-in-law, Vernon Hebb. Bill’s wish was to remain at home in the house where he was born and had lived most of his life. Bill impacted many lives and will remain forever in our hearts. Bill’s memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, October 2 in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 59 Main St., Hantsport, Father Tom Henderson and Rev. Bill Gibson, officiating.
