1125 Madeline “Madge” Iona (Hutchinson) Davison, 95, formerly of Port Williams, passed away on October 25, 2021, in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Canaan, on June 29, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Emmerson and Iona (Barron) Hutchinson, formerly of Avonport.

Our precious Mom was the life and light of every family gathering. She welcomed everyone with arms wide open and her ever-present, beautiful smile. Family and friends meant the world to her. She always made time for each one of us in her gentle and caring, nurturing way. Mom could have the tea pot on and the table laden with a delicious, homemade feast that seemed to magically appear before you had time to take your coat off. She lived to serve others. In her fun-loving way, she could have a room full of people doubled over in laughter and that has left us all with an abundance of treasured memories.

It was important to Mom to make your heart shine as bright as her own.

Besides her parents, Madge was predeceased by her beloved husband of 70 years, Vernon; son, Glen; grandson, Jonathan Davison; daughter-in-law Ruth (Murphy) Davison; son-in-law, Fred MacIntosh; sisters, Margaret Rose in childhood; Frances (Arnold) Wellwood; Jean (Ken) Weagle; Mildred (Larry) Lutwick; Dorothy (Chester) Reese; brothers, Ralph; Frank (Madelyn); and brother-in-law, Theodore Miller.

1126 Maguire, William "Garnet" It is with profound sadness that the family of William "Garnet" Maguire, 76, of Indian Path announces his passing on August 23, 2024 at the Mahone Nursing Home. Born in Windsor, on July 20, 1948, Garnet was the second of three children born to Nellie Laura Watson and Clarence "Mick" Maguire. He grew up in Woodville, Grand Pre, and Hantsport, and graduated from Horton District High School in 1967. Following high school, Garnet attended the Nova Scotia Institute for Technology in Halifax and became an electrical linesman following his studies, working for Nova Scotia Power, Riverport Electric Light Commission, and the Town of Mahone Bay throughout his career. It was during his travel work with Nova Scotia Power that he met Marie and they were married on November 6, 1971 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay. Garnet maintained a lifelong interest in sports, with a focus on soccer (a member of Horton's Provincial B soccer championship squad in 1967 and a member of the Lunenburg County senior team's exhibition tour of the United Kingdom in 1979), dirt bike racing, bowling, baseball, and hockey. A lifelong fan of the Montreal Canadiens, one of the highlights of his life was refereeing an exhibition hockey game in Lunenburg featuring Maurice Richard and other Canadiens alumni. Having spent some of his formative years with his grandparents on their farm, Garnet rekindled that interest later in life by building a hobby farm of his own and working with sets of oxen. He became involved with the Maritime Ox Pulling Association and participated in ox pulls across the South Shore, most frequently at the South Shore Exhibition in Bridgewater. One of Garnet's favourite locations was Big Mush-a-Mush Lake, and he loved spending summers at his cottage on the lake, surrounded by his family and his friends. Following a diagnosis with Lewy body dementia, it became more difficult for Garnet to lead his once-active life and he had to curtail many of the activities he enjoyed. He was cared for at home until the final month of his life. In addition to his parents, Garnet was predeceased by his brother, Greg Maguire of Bishopville; his sister, Debby Maguire of Greenwood; and his special aunt, Joyce MacInnis of Hantsport. Interment will be held at the Old Blockhouse Cemetery, Highway 324, Blockhouse, on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 2 p.m., with Rev Lee Simpson officiating. Declaring that she had seen enough of Europe, she travelled in recent years to South Africa, Tahiti, Patagonia, Russia and China. She very much enjoyed her rug-hooking and bridge groups. She had an intense devotion to her family that was followed by an avid enthusiasm for curling and golfing. She was a member of the Windsor Curling Club since 1964 and was a member of the 1993 Provincial Senior Mixed Champion team. When curling was not a seasonal option, as a member of the Avon Valley Golf Club, she would play 80 games a year. 1138 Marilyn Debra Eldridge

Age 68, of Bishopville, peacefully passed away after a brief bout with lung cancer on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, in the VG Site, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Debbie was born in the old Payzant Hospital in Windsor, to the late Paul and Karleen (Smith) Eldridge on May 20, 1955.

Debbie attended Horton District High School and graduated around 1973. She had the opportunity to work at Bonny Lea Farms a few summers in her teenage years and this inspired her career of helping and caring for others as a nurse. Deb spent 31 years looking after patients at the VG Hospital on 7A, 9A and the 10th floor with a number of beloved and cherished nurse friends.

Debbie had numerous hobbies and passions. She always had a furry friend nearby, either a horse in the earlier years or a playful cat, who had been aptly named after a favourite historical figure. Debbie was constantly reading and some of her favourite subjects to read about were the royal family, Winston Churchill, local history, the murder mysteries of Mary Higgins Clark and the fantastical world of Terry Brooks. It was virtually impossible to beat Debbie in a game of Trivial Pursuit due to the vast number of disparate random facts she had amassed from her voracious reading. Reading about the royals and Churchill was supplemented by her many trips to Britain. London was by far her favourite place to sojourn, though she had also enjoyed travelling to Australia, South America and the USA. Following in her ancestor’s family footsteps, she spent many hours puttering in her garden and had a special fondness for the Victorian garden she cultivated in her backyard.

In the past few years Deb took a keen interest in her family genealogy and this branched out to volunteering and working for the West Hants Historical Society where she enthusiastically shared her passion for local history. She will be fondly remembered by her curling buddies at the Windsor Curling Club. She always enjoyed watching curling on TV and was so proud of herself for taking up the sport and not being half bad at it.

Besides her parents, Deb was predeceased by her stepfather, Melvin Hebb.

Debbie’s wisdom, sage advice and witty sarcasm will be sorely missed by all her friends and family.

1155 MARSTERS, Robert Frederick \'Bob\'
Age 75 of Hantsport, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax. Born in Hantsport on February 15, 1941, he was the son of the late Frederick Davison Marsters and Laura Louise (Lane) Marsters. Bob took his education entirely at Hantsport School, with the exception of Grade XII which was taken at Windsor Academy, and even though he excelled in his studies, he was not particularly enthused with attending school. On completion of school, he attended a private business college in Windsor. Bob then joined H.R. Doane and Company (now Grant Thornton) and acquired his Chartered Accountant’s designation in the late 1960’s and served for many years in their offices in Windsor and Halifax, and in Saint John, N.B. In 1977 Bob returned to Hantsport and established his own public accounting practice, serving his clients in the area for well over 30 years, many of them becoming more like family than business clients. He was particularly interested in history, especially the history of Hantsport and the local area. Bob cherished his Canadian citizenship, but he was equally proud of his British heritage; he was a staunch supporter of the monarchy. Bob liked to garden and he loved animals, especially cats, many of them being strays or ones he adopted. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King St., P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0. Bob’s ashes will be buried in the Marsters family plot in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, at a later date.
