| 1087 | LOCKHART, Glenda Eileen August 18, 1944 - October 15, 2017. She lived the life she loved and loved the life she lived. Her every dream was fulfilled in her life; a happy marriage of 54 years, a large family and the gift of nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Glenda was happiest when she was doing for her family. Her mac and cheese was legendary and she loved keeping her children and grandchildren stocked up. Glenda was especially interested in local history and genealogy. She spent years collecting what she could of pictures and old post cards. She had traced the family tree back many, many generations. | 1088 | LOCKHART, John Frederick 'Jack' Of Wolfville, formerly Avonport, passed away peacefully, Monday, September, 4, 2017 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with family at his side, following a brief fight with cancer. He remained a faithful Christian, hoping to witness to people right to the end. Jack was born on March 31, 1944 in Wolfville to the late Murray and Ellen 'Nellie' (MacIntosh) Lockhart (Avonport). Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by son, Kerry Addison; daughters, Jacqueline Cecilia (in infancy) and Andrea Karen; sister-in-law, Jean Allen. He was a born-again Christian and former member of Avonport United Baptist Church. He served the church for a short time as leader of the boy’s youth group Sigma-C and several years on the Board of Trustees. He was founder and past president of the Avonport Men’s Club Society and former player and past president of the Valley Orthodox Softball League. Jack bowled for many years in the Hantsport Men’s Bowling League, and was a proud member of The Old Farts Club, Avonport. He was a 10year canvasser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and he volunteered with the Red Cross at Camp Aldershot during the 1998 Kosovo refugee crisis. Jack was an electrician during most of his working years, working with several electrical contractors in the valley. After his retirement his passion became genealogy and historical data. He delighted in dowsing for unmarked graves with his cousin Walter Urban, and was delighted that through his genealogical research, he connected with his cousin, Don Lockhart, United States. His 'Tim’s runs' with his 'Best Bud' Marshall was always the highlight of his days. He was definitely a 'Jack of all Trades' and was always willing to give a hand to anyone who asked for or needed it. The family would like to thank the great staff on Med A at Valley Regional Hospital for the amazing and compassionate care they gave Jack and showed to the family. Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late George and Alice (Smith) MacBurnie. Barb worked and raised her family in Hantsport. She was well known in the community and loved by all who knew her. Barb loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved to cook, bake and work in the flower garden. | 1092 | Lois Faye Burgess Lois passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Windsor, on December 21, 1964 she was the daughter of Helen (Jeffrey) and the late Raymond Burgess. Lois graduated from Horton District High School in 1983 and subsequently obtained her B.Ed degree from Acadia University in 1987. She taught for a number of years before transitioning to working at the Acadia Childhood Development Center (ACDC) where she also worked for a number of years. For the last few years she has worked part-time with the Annapolis Valley Regional Library leading the children's story time programs at the Hantsport and Windsor branches which she enjoyed immensely. Lois loved music especially playing the piano and singing. She was a member of the choir at Hantsport Baptist Church for many years where she was able to use her talent to its fullest. She was a kind and compassionate person as evidenced by her many lifelong friends, some of them going back over 40 years. She also cared for her parents until her father's passing and her mother's move to a special care home. Her strong Christian faith was evident to all those who came in contact with her, especially in these last few months. It brought her great comfort and sustained her especially at the times when she felt the worst physically. She was predeceased by her father, Raymond. The family would like to thank the many caregivers who looked after Lois and enabled her to stay in her home for as long as possible. A private, invite only, service celebrating Lois’ life will be held Monday, November 23 in Hantsport Baptist Church, Hantsport, Rev. Jennifer Riley officiating. | 1093 | Lois “Pauline” Sanford-Harvey, age 90 of Hantsport, Hants County, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born January 26, 1930 in Kempt Shore, Hants County, she was the only child of the late Walter and Lottie (Sanford) Wilcox. Following her early years and education she married Arthur D. Sanford and resided in Hantsport until her death. She was a loving daughter, wife and mother and a proud active citizen of her home town. Her strong faith and love of God was a highlight of her life. She was a Life Member of the United Church of Canada. In Avon United Church she served as an Elder, Sunday school teacher, CGIT leader and active member of U.C.W. In her earlier years, she taught school, served a term of office on the Board of School Commissioners, was on the Seniors Housing Commission, the Hospital Auxiliary and Community Centre. Pauline would always lend a hand wherever she was needed. In the political world, she always enjoyed a friendly argument and chat having served as term secretary of the West Hants Liberal Association. Her hobbies were cake decorating and oil painting and her social activities included dancing and camping. She especially enjoyed going to the Jam Sessions and listening to Country and Blue Grass music. She was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur “Junior” Sanford. Born in Sweets Corner, Hants Co., on April 11, 1941, Mabel was a daughter of Gerald and Louise (Dykens) Harvey. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Gordon; brothers, Herman, Rolie, Billy, Raymond, Herbie, and Norman Harvey; sisters, Vera Phillips and Helen Boyd. Mabel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and no guest left her house hungry. She worked outside the home as well. Many will remember her from the Cameron\'s/ Anstrum\'s fruit stand, where she was a mainstay for several years. Her favorite job, however, was raising her two children and having a part in caring for her four granddaughters. Nannie was always ready for a round of crib, snakes and ladders or crazy eights. Those who knew Mabel well admired her quiet strength, steadfast loyalty, kind heart and gentle soul. Burial service will be held for the family in Ste. | 1100 | LOWTHERS, Irvin Gordon Age 74, Surrey, B.C., formerly of Windsor and Three Mile Plains, Hants Co., passed away at his home in Surrey, on Sunday, July 5, 2020, after a battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Lorrena (Wile) Lowthers; grandchildren, Alyssa Patricia (2008), and her twin, Mason Gordon Hernandez (2015). He was also predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jerry and Ted Smith. Irvin started working at Minas Basin in Hantsport, where he became interested in what was to become his trade as a machinist and he worked at several places including Mount Uniacke, Dartmouth and ending in Windsor. He loved camping and vacationing with family and friends, and will be remembered for his dry sense of humour. He enjoyed playing golf, cards and watching sports when he’d cheer for whoever was playing against the Maple Leafs or any Boston team. Born on September 21, 1941, in Windsor, Hants Co., Gordon was a son of the late Samuel and Verna (White) Lowthers. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Reid Lowthers. Gordon was a loving and social man who always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He retired in 2006 from Minas Basin Pulp and Power. Gordon grew up in Sweets Corner. He excelled at hockey and running while at Hants West High School. He loved gardening and animals, especially dogs. | 1102 | LUND (Ranuum), Else Margretta Born August 17, 1919, in Sellback, Norway, passed peacefully into her next journey at Northwood Terrace on February 22, 2015. Else immigrated to Canada with her husband Kaare in 1952 to Hantsport, where he worked at Fundy Gypsum as the sea captain on the SS Duchess until his retirement in 1979. Else dedicated her time to raising her two sons Jan and Peter, while fitting in time to play bridge with friends, learn English and being persistent she could play golf well. Else also loved hosting, boating and swimming with friends at her Black River Lake cottage in the Gaspereau Valley for many years before moving to Northwood Manor in 2008. | 1103 | Lunn, Clyde Henry - 90, of Mount Denson, Hants Co., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2011 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Windsor, he was a son of the late Thomas and Emma (Hoeg) Lunn. Clyde was a veteran having served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1940-1945 on the St. Francis performing convoy duty. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion in both Hantsport and Windsor and also belonged to the Mount Denson United Church for 41 years, all of which he served as treasurer. Clyde worked for 20 years at both Minas Basin Pulp and Power and CKF in Hantsport. Clyde loved playing musical instruments, doing crosswords, watching baseball, working in the yard and most of all spending time with his family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers, Ralph and Howard Lunn. There will be no visitation by request, the Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a tribute service at 2 p.m., Monday, July 4, followed by the funeral service in St. James United Church, 17 Prince Street, Hantsport, Rev. | 1104 | Lyda Mae Pelley Age 76, of Hantsport, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in Maplestone Nursing Home, Halifax. Born on March 16, 1948 in Richmond, Quebec, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Mae (Papineau) Oakley. Lyda spent most of her early life raising four children. She enjoyed travelling with her husband to their cottage in Newfoundland where she would spend time on the lake enjoying the peacefulness of nature. Lyda enjoyed spending time tending to her plant collection, was an avid reader of many publications and she loved birdwatching in her backyard. She was a Godfearing faithful follower of Christ and was dedicated to building up her faith. Besides her parents, Lyda was predeceased by her husband, Larry Pelley in July 2021. Born in Carleton Corner, Annapolis Co., he was a son of the late George W. Lynch and Elsie M. (Reese) MacDonald. In 1958 George joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps serving in Transportation/Logistics retiring as a Warrant Officer in 1984 at Camp Debert. In his retirement, he went on to work in real estate and car sales. George was an avid birdwatcher and he was a collector of single malt scotches. He was an active Mason for over 30 years having served in several offices for Kentville Lodge No. 58 including Worshipful Master, Welsford Lodge No. 26 and as a Grand Steward for the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia. He was active in the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite - Valley of Halifax, Annapolis Valley Scottish Rite Club and the Order of the Secret Monitor. He was also a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No. 009, Windsor. Born on September 13, 1914, in Woodville, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Forrest) Davison and had lived in Ashdale for many years before moving to Hantsport in 1951. Rita worked as a cook for many years for her father in Mill Camps and after moving to Hantsport, she worked at Johnson’s Candy Factory. She had a great love for animals, and you could see her walking every day her little dog \'Freddie\', who was her great joy. She was very active in St. James United Church, was a life member of the UCW, and had started a church group called 'Drop In'. Ralph was a dedicated son, father, grandfather and man. He spent 40 years working for Canadian Keyes Fibre. Ralph enjoyed being outside on his tractor; oh, how he loved that machine. Born to the late Chesley and Jean (Cook) MacInnis, Dana (Danny) will be fondly remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. Dana dedicated many years of service to the Canadian Coast Guard, a role he took great pride in. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball, and throughout his life he found peace and joy in the outdoors, particularly through hunting and fishing. Cremation has taken place. | 1113 | MacINNIS, Keith Allen Age 86 of Hantsport, passed away on November 25, 2018 in Valley Regional Hospital. Born in Hantsport, he was the son of the late Alfred and Vera (Levy) MacInnis. Keith had many skills. He renovated his three homes. As well, he was talented in things as varied as model ship building and furniture refinishing. He had a love for the water and was proud that he sailed on the maiden voyage of the Gypsum Duchess in 1957. He also sailed all along the Eastern Seaboard, on the gypsum boats, as far south as Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. In his later years, he watched the boats sail in the Avon River from the window in his 'Recovery Room' at his home in Hants Border. He loved swimming in the 'medicinal' waters of the Avon River with his friends The Beach Boys. Before retiring in 1998, he was the janitor at Hantsport School. Besides his parents, Keith was predeceased by infant daughter, Theresa Anne; sister, Alicia Dauphinee; brothers, Ronald and Chesley. He was a son of the late Ronald Sr. and Olla (Stewart) MacInnis. Ronnie loved fishing, hunting and just being in the woods. He enjoyed skeet shooting and was a member of the Annapolis Valley Shooting Sports Club. Ronnie was employed at CKF Inc, retiring after 45 years of service. Besides his parents, Ronnie was predeceased by his brother, Lennie. After all his years with a family of women, he was so happy to spend many wonderful hours with his great grandsons. A private family graveside interment service will be held. Born in Wolfville, she was a daughter of the late Stewart and Charlotte \'Ruth\' (Cox) MacIntosh. Ann was a fearless, free spirit who loved horses. She was employed as an actress, movie stuntwoman, singer and dancer and often appeared in commercials and movies. She was a born-again Christian and attended Hantsport Baptist Church and was a member of the choir. She had sung in many Valley churches, sharing the Christian message. | 1116 | MacINTOSH, Frederick Donald \'Fred\' Age 65, of Avonport, passed away peacefully at home in the loving arms of his family on June 19th, 2016. Born on October 19th, 1950 in Wolfville, he was the eldest son of the late Donald and Violet (Rudolph) MacIntosh. Fred worked for 44 years as a licensed plumber for various companies in Wolfville, spending the last 30 years at Acadia University. He was a member of Avonport Baptist Church. Fred was happiest when surrounded by family, friends, music and laughter. Blessed with a natural ability for singing and drumming, he drew inspiration from the countless nights of watching Don and Vi share their own musical talents with friends and relatives in their home on Bluff Road. Fred went on to become a member of \'The Neighbour’s Kids\' and a number of other groups including \'Night Shift\' making lifelong friends along the way. If Fred couldn’t be sitting behind the drums, then walking with his feet in the warm sand of Risser’s Beach with his family searching for sand dollars and \'treasures\' was where he was truly relaxed. He was known for his loving hugs for anyone who was lucky enough to receive them. How blessed we were to have this beautiful soul in our lives to call Honey, Dad and Papa. | 1117 | MacINTOSH, Harry Morton Harry Morton MacIntosh died in MarLane Lodge, Wolfville, suddenly, with family and friends near, on September 2, 2018. Born in Hortonville on July 8, 1924, he was a son of the late Frederick and Mary (Rathbone) MacIntosh. Harry was a resident of Avonport up until 2013 and spent his remaining years in Wolfville. He was employed by Minas Basin Pulp and Power, Hantsport for 38 years as a 1st class carpenter, building his own two homes. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Harry was a musician all his life, which involved his outstanding tenor voice and guitar. He was a member of the Kentville Barbershop Chorus for 35 years and the Baptist Church Choir for 10 years. He was an amazing, self-taught mechanic, restoring a 1920 Chevrolet and winning Best of Show, competing with 70 cars in the 1965 Halifax and Region Antique Auto Club Competition while he actively was a member of the Halifax Antique Auto Club for many years. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Ulrica (Porter); sisters, Bessie Pulsifer (John) (Hantsport); Eva Urban (Walter), (Avonport); Nelly Lockhart (Murray) (Avonport); Mary Hartlin (Harris) (Hants Border); brothers, Stewart (Ruth) (Lockhartville); Donald (Violet) (Avonport). | 1118 | MACK, Albert 'Blain' Age 56, of Upper Vaughan, Hants Co. With broken hearts we announce his passing peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, August 22, 2015. Born on July 6, 1959 in Digby and raised in Hantsport, he was a son of Carolyn 'Kaye' (Croft) and the late Robert 'Bob' Mack. Blain worked part-time as Sheriff\'s Deputy with his father who was Hants County Sheriff until his accidental death in 1993. For 33 years Blain worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Justice in Windsor, Sackville, and the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Burnside as a Correctional Officer. He was a singer/musician in various bands over the years including Country Gold, The Fugitives, the Mack family band 'The Midnight Special' and he also played in the Soldier's Creek band with his son, Caleb. Blain's favourite pastimes were spending time with Janet (harmonizing, playing guitar together), enjoying family, nature, living at the lake and music jam sessions with family and friends. He was a devoted husband and father, a genuine, kind and patient man with a hilarious sense of humour. He was always quite the character, very positive, open-minded and made everyone laugh all the time, even in his last days battling cancer. Blain was always a very strong man both physically and mentally, enabling him to overcome the obstacles of life. He was always a gentleman, turning negative situations into positives. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, co-workers and all who knew him. Karen lived her life not worrying about the hardships that came along but focused on the lives we touch along the way. Born in Windsor, on September 29, 1956, she lived the majority of life in Hantsport, touching people’s lives not only with her beautiful voice but with her loving ways where ever she was. She was employed as a waitress starting out at R&G’s in Hantsport where she was known for her hugs and red lipstick kisses and songs for special occasions. She spent the last 11 years in Saskatchewan continuing to work as a waitress touching many lives. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. | 1120 | Mack, Robert “Kevin” - age 70 of Middle Sackville, passed away from prostate cancer on Friday, March 7, 2025 in the QE II, VG Site. Kevin was born in Windsor and he is the eldest son of Carolyn Mack (Croft) and the late Robert Mack of Hantsport. He was predeceased by his brother, Blain Mack. Kevin attended Hantsport High School. He won awards in music and archery. He left home when he was 19, looking for adventure. He first encountered God in Prince George, BC when he hopelessly fell to his knees in the winter snow and cried out to God. It was then as he looked upwards that he saw an outline of Jesus, and was instantly delivered from alcohol and cigarettes. He hopped a train and went to Edmonton, Alberta, to find Peoples’ Church. He stayed in Edmonton for 17.5 years. In 1991, he went back east to renew his relationship with his parents. He moved to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, to find work. He attended Rock Church in Lower Sackville. Having music and art in common, Kevin and Lexine began a relationship and ended up getting married July 9th, 1994. They celebrated their 30th Anniversary last July 9th, 2024. They were Prayer Post leaders for Prayer Canada where they led worship, preached and taught the Bible, influenced many people to love the Lord with all their hearts, mind and strength; read their Bibles and put God first in their lives. Many people are better off and stronger in their faith for knowing Kevin. He was loved and will be greatly missed. Funeral service to be held at 2pm Tuesday, March 18th in Rock Church with a reception to follow, 222 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville.
