Age 39, of Glooscap First Nation, Bishopville, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015, at home. Born in Kentville, he was a son of Arnold Rafuse, Kentville, and the late Wendy (Francis) Rafuse. He had been employed at the Glooscap Variety and Gas Bar in Bishopville. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing and was passionate about music. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by twin daughters, Taryn and Taylor.

1217 RAFUSE, Madelon Jean (RN)

Age 77, of Mount Denson, Hants Co., passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on November 22, 1941, in Martock, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late William and Merle (Hopkins) Taylor. Madelon graduated from Payzant Memorial Hospital in 1962 School of Nursing, and worked as a Registered Nurse at both Payzant Memorial and Hants Community Hospitals until her retirement in the mid 1990’s. She spent countless hours helping and supporting her friends and neighbours through good times and bad. She enjoyed Sunday family dinners, spending time at Mockingee Lake, camping with her grandchildren, shopping, lunches with friends and laughing with her 'sisters at heart' (Norma, Connie, Brenda, and Dorene). Mum’s favourite time of year was Christmas and the family was glad that they were able to celebrate one final Christmas with her. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, Lewis; sisters, Josephine Munroe and Kathleen Taylor. The family would like to thank all those who helped Mum and Dad through the last few months. Also thanks to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Hants Community Hospital, with special thanks to Dr. Cathryn Smith who provided excellent care in her final days. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2019, in Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Garnet Parker officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Madelon may be made to The Children’s Wish Foundation.

1219 RAMEY, Ruth Elizabeth — In her 87th year passed away peacefully on June 1,2012,in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, with Jennifer and Kim by her side. Born in Hantsport, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Helen (Clarke) Coldwell. She completed a business course and worked at Minas Basin Pulp and Paper Co. Supporting her husband’s career, they lived in Winnipeg, Man., Sydney, St. John’s, N.L. and Dartmouth. She was an avid bridge, scrabble, and crib player. Many hours were spent reading, knit­ting, needlepoint,tatting and crochet­ing. She was a member of Emanuel Church for 40 years, and St.Andrew’s Anglican Church for five years. In ad­dition, she was a member of the Fair­field IODE Dartmouth for 50 years, Head Start 10 years, and Stairs Memo­rial Food Bank 10 years. Over the years she made many long-lasting friendships through her numerous bridge clubs, church, charity work, especially on Laurier Street. 1220 Randolph “Bose” Fraser McLellan, age 65, of Bishopville, Kings County, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.

Born on January 28, 1956 in Pembroke, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Gerald and Joan McLellan.

Randy was always the life of the party and always had a smile for everyone. He was a professional carpenter and Jack of all trades. Randy loved and looked forward to his weekends at the camp with his son, Tim and his brother, Warren. He was deeply loved and will be missed by everyone who knew him. Fly High Randy.

He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, David Law. His father and mother-in-law, Francis & Bertha Rhynold.

A private family service will be held (Masks & Social Distancing Required) in the Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.

1221 Raymond Douglas Holmes
age 78 of Halifax, passed away on March 27, 2022. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Raymond grew up in Hantsport; educated at Acadia University, Princeton University and earned his PhD in Mathematics at Dalhousie University. He went on to teach at Acadia University in Wolfville and Dalhousie University in Halifax as Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science. Raymond later applied his expertise as a Software Engineer. He spearheaded the team at Knowledge House Publishing Limited that wrote the award-winning Patient Simulator II simulation software. He spent several years in software development for Reuters in New York, after which he moved back to Halifax for retirement.

Raymond also had many non-professional interests during his life including fencing, theater, rally car racing, flying airplanes and more, but perhaps his greatest passion was in computer games.

1222 RCAF Flying Officer during WWII. Served as Flight Instructor with the British Commonwealth Air Training Program in Western Canada 1943-1945. Returned to Halifax, Nova Scotia at the end of WWII. Worked for Acadian Bus Lines and Nova Scotia Light and Power in Halifax before re-enlisting in the RCAF. Being a few hours short of flying time, Bud could not re-enlist as an officer. His second career with the Royal Canadian Air Force saw him start anew as a Private. He retired with the rank of Sergeant. After retirement from the RCAF, he enjoyed a successful career as a Technical Writer in the Canadian Aerospace industry. Bud returned home to Centreville, Nova Scotia after retirement from private industry. 1225 REDDEN, Ellis William — 82, of Windsor Forks, Hants Co., passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, May 4, 2012, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on March 6, 1930, in Windsor Forks, Hants Co., he was a son of the late Fred and Margaret (Benedict) Redden. Ellis worked in Halifax before moving to Windsor Forks and worked in Wind­sor, where he became a well-known Pharmacist. He was a member of St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Windsor Forks. Ellis was a member of the Nova Scotia Trappers Association, West Hants Wildlife Federation and West Hants Ground Search and Rescue. Prede­ceased by daughter, Carolyn Perry (2007); sisters, Roselind, Stella, Jean, Nita, Anna, and Doris; brothers, Aubrey and Gerald 'Buck'. Interment will be in Windsor Forks Community Cemetery. 1226 Regina \"Missy\" May Allison, age 80, of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2020, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.

Born on October 19, 1939, in Mount Denson, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late William Alonzo States and Sarah Jane (States) States.

Missy’s favourite hobbies included doing crafts and late nights playing cards with her closest friends. She had an impressive spoon collection and a special collection of angels. She was known for her “open door policy” and embraced anyone who visited her home. She was a talented cook and baker and would happily prepare a home-cooked meal for anyone who stopped by to visit. Missy was a woman of faith who cared deeply for her friends, family, and community. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Missy will be remembered for her kind, humble spirit, the infinite wisdom she shared, and the love that she gave so selflessly.

1228 REHBERG, Mary Jean — 84, of Fal­mouth, Hants Co., passed away on Monday, November 15, 2010, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on September 11, 1926, in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Victoria (Henry) Crawley. Today, we, her 18 chil­dren gathered to­gether to say good­bye to our loving Mother, whom car­ried us through all sorts of good times as well as the bad. Mary was a strong person, who cared deeply for her family and who worked hard to make us the individu­als we are today. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She was the family 'glue' to bind us together. Hopefully in the fu­ture, we can stay as strong as she made us! Besides her par­ents, Mary was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, James 'Jim' Juli­us Gregory Rehberg; her daughter, Marlene Rehberg; son-in-law, Richard Sargent; grandson, Jason Waddell; granddaughter, Rachel Sargent; her siblings, Margaret Rehberg, Dorothy O’Hara, Frank Crawley, John 'Jack' Crawley, Gerry Crawley, Kenneth Crawley, Jim Crawley, and Graham Crawley. 1229 REID, Christine Howden, age 97, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2019 at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital. Born in Kirkintilloch, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Hogg) Robertson. Before joining the Royal Air Force, Christine completed two years at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. While serving as a radar operator, she met and married her husband of over 70 years, Ed Reid. She immigrated to Canada as a war bride. Christine was a homemaker who enjoyed the daily crossword puzzle and the crypto quote. She continued to learn by taking both French and computer classes. She also enjoyed knitting, gardening, playing crib, bridge and watching the Toronto Blue Jays. She will be remembered for her quick wit. Age 96 of Halifax, passed away June 13, 2016, in Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Building, QEII. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late William and Katherine (Smith) Reid. Ed was an engineer with the Nova Scotia Department of Highways all his working life. He was an avid bridge and cribbage player. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by brother, Clarence Reid; sisters, Lauris, Josephine; half-sister, Margaret and infant brother, John.

1231 Renda Mary VANDERTOORN — Hantsport

Age 61, of Hantsport, passed away peacefully in Hants Community Hospital on August 10, 2022. Renda graduated from Hantsport High School and completed Grade 12 at Windsor Regional High School. She became a proud graduate of Acadia University in 1986 with a degree in Education focused on Physical Education. Renda didn’t stray far from home and upon graduation she began her teaching days in Hantsport in 1987 as their Physical Education teacher. Renda continued teaching in Hantsport (with brief stops in Avonport and Gaspereau) until she retired in 2017. She cherished spending time with family and friends and was always on the go to make that happen. She loved planning events, parties and holidays thus acquiring the name “Cruise Director”. She never missed a birthday, anniversary or special occasion without giving someone a card. Her family will dearly miss posing for her pictures, her super competitive games nights and her relentlessness in putting family and traditions first. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 18th, in Lindsay Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0. Funeral will be held 3 p.m. Friday, August 19th, in Hantsport Baptist Church, 6 Willow St., Hantsport. Rev. Jennifer Riley officiating. There will be a private burial after the church service and reception to follow at the church. 1236 Reta Irene Abraham, family matriarch, formerly of Collingwood, Nova Scotia and recently London, Ontario died Tuesday evening at the University Hospital in London. The wife of the late Charles Soloman Abraham passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and loved ones. Her age was 95.
Reta was a mother, wife, grandmother and a great grandmother. She lived life to the fullest, loved to travel, and was known for her outgoing personality and business savvy. She and her husband Charlie founded Charles Abraham General Store in Collingwood from 1939, and ran it until their retirement in 1972. They loved to entertain and had many friends in the community of Collingwood, Nova Scotia and surrounding areas.

Predeceased by her husband Charlie and her grandson Jason Joseph Abraham, she was the last surviving member of the Awad family formerly of Truro, Nova Scotia.
