1171 Pugh, Donald Pentz (Don)- Age 82 of Dartmouth, passed away suddenly at home on Friday September 30, 2016. Born in Halifax on September 18, 1934, to the late Harold and Edna (Doty) Pugh. Don enjoyed sports(as a spectator) and was a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Camping was his hobby and he and the family enjoyed many trips in the Maritimes and New England States. One highlight of his travels was a cross Canada train trip with his constant travel partner, Nancy. Don retired January 1995 from his 42 year career with Standard Brands/Nabisco Brands Ltd. He was predeceased by his son Paul, sister Gloria Mullen, brothers Ron and Roy. A family burial will take place at a later date at the family plot at Riverside Baptist Church, Digby Co, NS. Pugh, Donald Pentz (I5775)
 
1172 PULSIFER - Thelma Alice 87 years of Springhill, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2007 at All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Falmouth, N.S. on January 20, 1920, she was a daughter of the Late Maurice and Susie (Wile) Houghton.

Thelma lived mainly in Hantsport, Kentville and Springhill and was an active member of the Baptist Church in all communities. She served as treasurer of a number of organizations, including Springhill IODE and The Springhill Curling Club. Thelma is remembered as an excellent bridge player, cook and a superb wife, mother and grandmother.

Predeceased by brothers Albert and Alfred; sisters, Marjorie and Kathleen.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of A. H. Brown Funeral Service, Springhill. Visitation will be held from 1 - 2 pm on Saturday, February 10, 2007, followed immediately at 2:00 pm by a Memorial Funeral Service, both held in Springhill Baptist Church, Church Street, Springhill, with The Reverend Perry Hanley officiating. A reception will follow the service. Burial in River Bank Cemetery, Hantsport, N. S. at a later date.

1173 PULSIFER, Frank Elliott
April 8, 1947 - August 14, 2016, of Mount Denson. Son of late John and Bessie Pulsifer. He was a draftsman by trade, as well as a school bus driver for the AVRSB. Being a Land Rover and tractor enthusiast, he enjoyed being outside as well as working on his machinery. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 11 a.m., in Avonport United Baptist Church, Rev. Wayne Fevens officiating, with a reception to follow. Burial will take place in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.

1174 PULSIFER, George Ivan
Age 85, Truro, passed away October 25, 2016 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Hantsport, Hants Co., on April 5, 1931, he was the son of the late Ivan Lester and Margaret Blanche (Hewitt) Pulsifer. George received his teaching education at the Provincial Normal College and Acadia University. He taught school in Debert for two years, then Truro Junior High for four years and was Principal at Douglas Street for six years and also principal at Bible Hill Central for 23 years. George retired in 1985. He was very active in community affairs having been a former member of the Truro Recreation Commission, member of the Original Stadium Building Committee, member of the Retired Teachers Association, member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 and member of First Baptist Church. He was also President of the Truro and Area Minor Hockey Association for years and coached Pee Wee and Bantam Hockey for 20 years. His favorite hockey team was the Montreal Canadiens. George ran for the Liberal Association against Robert L. Stanfield and won 44 percent of the vote. He enjoyed his winters in Florida (all 21 years) but had to be home by April to plant his Canna Lilies as he was an avid gardener. George absolutely loved his cars, and would trade as often as possible. He also enjoyed a good meal and loved ice cream treats. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 27 years, Evelyn (Drake) Jenkins Pulsifer whom he married August 1, 1970.

1175 PULSIFER, Robert George \'Bob\'
Of Springhill/ Halifax. Born October 3, 1919, in Hantsport, died November 9, 2016 in Halifax. Son of the late Walter H. Pulsifer and Margaret (Low) Pulsifer (of Hantsport). Predeceased by his beloved wife, Thelma (2007): his brothers, William and Walter and his good friend, Nita Brennan. Bob worked in numerous local industries before serving in the army as an infantry instructor from 1942-1945. He became a master mason at which he worked throughout his life. He finished his working life with Correctional Services Canada in Springhill. A true Christian gentleman, he served as a deacon and choir member in the Hantsport, Kentville, and Springhill Baptist Churches. He was also an active Rotarian and member of the Masonic Lodge. Bob was a star pitcher with the Army Team in Camp Aldershot during the war and helped lead it to a semi-final victory in 1944 (there was no final). He sang baritone with the Annapolis Valley based gospel octet the Avon Eight and was a lead in the barbershop quartet the Four Barrs, and performed with numerous other singing groups. Throughout his life his chief loves were family, church, singing and baseball. The funeral will be held in Springhill Baptist Church, 47 Church St. on Tuesday, November 15 at 2 p.m., with reception to follow, and interment will take place next to his beloved Thelma in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport at a later date.

Age 86 of Lakelands/ Hillsvale, Hants Co., passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018 in St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, Halifax. Born in Saint John, N.B., she was a daughter of the late William and Lillian (Parr) Ackroyd. Frances was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Lakelands. She enjoyed playing the Wii at Ardoise Community Hall, socializing over a coffee with her many friends and neighbors at Lakelands Variety Store and eating out at the Crossroads Restaurant. Predeceased by her first husband, George Angus Harvie; second husband, Kenneth \'Frank\' Pyett; brothers, William, George, Gerald, Gary, Byron; sisters, Eva and Shirley.

1179 PYKE, Rev. Canon Gordon Earl
Age 83 of North Sydney, passed away in Halifax, Saturday, August 6, 2016, after an extended illness. Gordon was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Robert and Mable (Enion) and his sisters, Frances MacLean (Blowers) and Doris McMullin (Rod); and brother, Cecil (Gertrude). Gordon, the son and grandson of Cape Breton coal miners, was born in Sydney Mines and grew up in the family home on Atlantic Street. After graduating from Sydney Mines High in 1952, he attended Dalhousie University and The University of King’s College - graduating with a B.A. in 1957 and a LTh in 1959. During the summers he worked at Keltic Lodge, on the railway and in the same coal mine where his grandfather was killed in a pit accident many years prior. In 1955 he entered the Royal Canadian Air Force University Reserve Training Plan and obtained his commission as a pilot officer. He married Eleanor on June 24, 1954 and together they raised a family of five boys and enjoyed 62 years together. On May 9, 1958, Gordon was made a Deacon of the Anglican Church in a ceremony at Saint Phillip’s Church, Halifax and appointed to Saint Andrew’s Church, Hantsport where he served until 1963. During this time Gordon and Eleanor welcomed their first three boys. On July 25th, 1959, he was made an Anglican Priest during a ceremony at Saint Andrew’s - the first such ceremony to take place at Saint Andrew’s. From 1963 to 1966 Gordon was appointed to Saint Thomas 'The Garrison Church' in St. John’s, Newfoundland as the youth minister. Gordon and Eleanor welcomed another son. In 1966 he led a group of youth from St. John’s to a work camp at Port Hope Simpson in Labrador where they built a church centre and ran a summer camp for kids. 1966 - 1974 was spent at Saint Mary’s Church, Glace Bay and their final son arrived. As in all the parishes he served Gordon was involved in innumerable community organizations. Gordon’s final appointment was to Saint John the Baptist Church, North Sydney from 1974 to 1992. In retirement he filled in at Cape Breton area churches for the next 10 years until he packed it in for good and burned all his sermons. Many happy summers were spent at the family cottage in Pyke’s Point near Ross Ferry on Boularderie Island - gardening, berry-picking, swimming, boating, bonfires on the beach, the annual wharf rebuild and going for long walks. Gordon was also a big fan of CBC radio. There will be a visitation today, Tuesday, August 9th from 7-8:30 p.m. in Saint John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in St. John Anglican Church with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Following the service there will be an interment in Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery on Tobin Road, Sydney Mines.

1180 Quentin "Que" Christopher Redden, age 54, of Windsor, formerly of Windsor Forks, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018, at the Q.E. II Halifax Infirmary Site, Halifax.

Born on June 25, 1964, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of Elva Martha (Saulnier) Redden, Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, and the late Ellis William Redden.

Quentin was an electrician by trade and had worked at the Halifax Shipyards, for several years. He had previously worked with Do It Right Landscaping. Que, as he was known was involved for many years with the Windsor Royal Junior “B” Hockey team. He was also very involved over the years with the Windsor Knight’s and the Hantsport Shamrock’s baseball teams. Que also loved country music.

Besides his father, Ellis (2012); he was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Perry, and her husband, William; nephew, Daniel Arnold.

Interment in the Windsor Forks Community Cemetery, Highway 14, Windsor Forks.
