SAFIRE, William Robert "Bob" - 71, Dartmouth. It is with great sadness that we must announce the sudden passing of Bob Safire on October 14, 2008. Bob was a gentle man who was born on October 22, 1936, in Halifax, the son of the late Louis and Mary Safire. He was predeceased by his sister, Kay Inglis. Bob's work career started as a young boy when he used to deliver telegrams in downtown Halifax. As an adult he worked as a shipping and receiving manager, initially for Trebley Brokerage Limited between 1956 and 1979, and Phillip's Cable between 1979-1983. In 1984 he joined the staff of the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission where he remained until his retirement in 2001. Bob was an avid amateur radio operator who was known for his quick wit, snappy lingo, and spreading 73s and 88s across the airwaves. Arrangements are in the care of Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday October 17, with a funeral service on Saturday, October 18 at 2 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Tony Gratto officiating, assisted by Bernard Grandy.
