    Notes:

    Died:
    HATCH, Peter Calvin, R.C.M.P. (S.Sgt. Ret\'d)
Age 82, of Hantsport, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, in Blomidon Court, Greenwich, Kings Co., where he had resided since August. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to staff at Blomidon Court for their compassion and care during his stay there. Born on May 25, 1933, in Red Head Cove, N.L., Peter was the son of the late Nicholas and Johanna (Duggan) Hatch. He began his career with the RCMP in 1951, in Ottawa at A Division. During the course of his career, he held positions in Montreal, North Sydney, Halifax, Charlottetown, Burin, St. John\'s, before retiring as Staff Sergeant, Sub Division NCO in the Corner Brook, N.L. Detachment. In 1961, Peter was selected for a course in Cryptography (codes and ciphers) with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals at their school in Kingston, Ont. This set off his lifelong addiction to cryptograms and cryptoquotes, which led him to buy just about every newspaper, magazine and book that published them. After retirement, he became an insurance underwriter with Occidental Life Insurance Company in Halifax, a career which he thoroughly enjoyed. On moving to the Annapolis Valley, he settled into the field of security with Minas Basin Pulp and Power Company in Hantsport. Peter had an intense love of history and engrossed himself in learning. He could not seem to absorb enough and would spend hours researching and reading. There wasn\'t a subject he didn\'t enthusiastically embrace. He was the quintessential storyteller and enjoyed spinning a good yarn. He thoroughly enjoyed keeping the Newfoundland language alive through his letters to the editor of local papers. He once described himself as a frustrated Bob Cratchit and hence became involved in various associations, usually involving areas of finance. His love of finance led him to positions as the founding President of the Mercy Convent School PTA, St. John\'s (the first PTA in the Catholic School System in Newfoundland), Secretary/Treasurer and later President of St. Bonaventure\'s College Men\'s Association, St. John\'s, member of the Finance Committee Parish Councils St. John\'s, Corner Brook, N.L. and Windsor, and Treasurer of the Orchard Valley Branch of the Federal Superannuates National Association, Kentville, for almost 20 years. Peter was also a proud member of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program with Canada Revenue Agency, assisting seniors and persons in need with tax returns and related matters. Besides his parents, Nicholas and Johanna (Duggan) Hatch, he was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, the former Stella Marie Hines (1996); his daughter, Sharon Anne Hatch (2004); brother, William Hatch (1980) (of Toronto, Ont.).

Family/Spouse: Stella Marie Hines. Stella (daughter of Percy Hines and Katie Mason) was born about 1930 in Windsor, Hants, Nova Scotia; died on 18 Nov 1996 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
