Jean Gertrude Morine (Beatty)

Passed away peacefully in Dartmouth General Hospital with loved ones by her side on Friday, December 25, 2020. She was 90 years old. Jean was born in Hortonville. She was a daughter of the late Freeman and Gertrude Beatty. Jean was a member of Stevens Road United Baptist Church choir in Dartmouth for a number of years. She and her late husband, Claude, were both blessed with the gift of music. Jean played the piano beautifully and the two were in perfect harmony when they sang duets during gatherings of friends and family in their Dartmouth home. Jean also served on the church's social committee for 13 years and spent time as a Sunday school teacher. Jean loved to bowl and she proudly displayed multiple trophies from her many league victories. When she wasn't bowling, she enjoyed sitting down with a cup of coffee or tea and working on a good puzzle, sometimes with a little help from her daughters and grandchildren. But her favourite pastime was watching the Toronto Blue Jays. As their number one fan, Jean never missed a game on television and kept an impressive record book of the team's statistics and standings. Jean loved all sports and when the Jays weren't playing, she was usually watching hockey or curling. Jean was adored by her eight grandchildren. Growing up, a trip to Grammy's meant lots of games, silly stories, fresh vegetables from the garden, and sweet treats and tea biscuits. As they grew older, no matter where they were around the world, they always made sure to call her regularly for a nice chat, a good laugh, or to hear a joke she had just read in a magazine or newspaper. She was predeceased by her husband, Claude; son, Kevin; and brothers, Donald, Billy, and Sam. Jean has eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, cleaning staff, and support staff on 5 east at Dartmouth General Hospital. Jean's final days were made a little easier because of you. While we take comfort in knowing Jean is in Heaven with her husband and son, whom she loved so much, we will always miss her sweet smile, quick wit, and unconditional love for her family. A private family burial will take place at a later date in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
