LANGDON, Capt. Oscar Kermit — Of Windsor, formerly of Hantsport, Hants Co. We are saddened to announce the passing of husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, at the age of 91. Oscar passed away peacefully on March 19, 2013, at home. He was born in Northern Arm (Botwood), N.L. on August 30, 1921. He was the eldest son of Caleb and Ethel (Goodwin) Langdon and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In September 1939, he went overseas in the Newfoundland Forestry Corps. In 1940 he enlisted in the Royal Navy and saw service in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans as well as the Mediterranean Sea. Oscar was discharged in 1946 when he joined his wife in Windsor. He took up employment with Gypsum Transportation Ltd. in Hantsport. He served as bosun for many years before returning to his studies at the Marine Institute in Halifax receiving his Master Mariners Qualifications and later served as mate and captain. He later went on to take the position of shore captain, retiring at the age of 68. Oscar was a member of the Company of Master Mariners of Canada and of The Royal Canadian Legion, Lucknow Branch 109 and Hants County Branch No. 9. Oscar was predeceased by his infant son, Gary Alan; infant granddaughter, Angelina Marie; sisters and brothers, Maxine, Bob, Hazel, Eric and son-in-law, Jim.
