BISHOP, Thomas Bernard \'Bernie\' — Age 68, of Lower Sackville, passed away February 6, 2011, in Cobequid Medical Centre. Born in Windsor, and raised in Hantsport, he was a son of the late Richard Bishop Sr. and Flo­rence (McPhee). Bernie worked as a salesman in the flooring industry for over 40 years, beginning with Ot­tawa Valley Lum­ber (Canfor) and retiring from Cen­tura in 2003. In re­cent years, he worked period­ically for Enviro Master’s Lawn Care and at the time of his death was an instructor with New Bridge Acade­my hockey school. Besides his work, his passion was his family and hockey. He began his hockey career in his hometown and played competitively at the junior, intermediate and senior league levels throughout the prov­ince. For the past 35 years, Bernie played recreational hockey for nu­merous local teams. He was proud to be a member of the USA Michigan Sting, helping them win numerous na­tional championships. In 2008 he orga­nized a Halifax \'Old Timers\' team. As their player/coach, Bernie led the hometown team to a world champion­ship. He coached minor hockey in Kentville and later with the Sackville Minor Hockey Association, where he also served as an executive member of the Sackville Jr. \'B\' Blazers. Ber­nie’s enthusiasm for the sport was passed on to his three sons who all played junior hockey. In the mid 1970’s he ventured into the harness racing world. His prized horse, Mid­night Glib, set track records at Sack­ville Downs and Foxborough, Mass. As a \'grampy\', he received immense joy from the time spent with his precious grandchildren, especial­ly around the family pool. Bernie was a dedicated sup­porter of Canadian Blood Services and in 2006 received recognition for 150 donations.

Richard married Florence Bell McPhee. Florence (daughter of Howard McPhee and Ethel Crabbe) was born on 30 Apr 1917 in Halifax, Nova Scotia; died on 19 May 1988 in Windsor, Hants, Nova Scotia; was buried in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, Hants, Nova Scotia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Hedley married Leonore Maude Shaw on 14 Jun 1905 in Hantsport, Hants, Nova Scotia. Leonore (daughter of Capt. David Benjamin Shaw and Mary Jane Porter) was born on 6 Oct 1884 in on Indian Ocean; died on 31 Dec 1974 in Hantsport, Hants, Nova Scotia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
