The Dorie and Garnet McDade Heritage Centre, a legacy project of the Hantsport & Area Historical Society was officially opened on 18 November 2017.
The centre is named in memory of Dorie (Turner) McDade, 1922 – 2004, and Garnet McDade, 1923 – 2006, “in recognition of the positive economic, cultural, social and community-minded impact they both had on Hantsport, the town that they loved.”
Exhibits are regularly updated and displayed in the Hattie Chittick Room (featuring the town’s marine heritage),
the Patterson Room (featuring information on William Hall VC, the Royal Canadian Legion and a military collection),
the Bishop Room (featuring many Hantsport area themes including a Glooscap First Nation display),
and the R. A. Jodrey Room (featuring his life and career).
