Born on March 18, 1922, in Avonport, she was a daughter of the late David and Lillian (Hughes) Lock­hart. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, John A. Scott; infant daughter, Julie Nadine; brothers, Otto, Gladwin, David, Will and Stewart; sis­ters, Mildred, Grace, Ella, Lillian, Hester, Edna and Jenny. For many years she was pageant director of the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Fes­tival and was affectionately known as the \'Queen Mother\'. She sang in St. James United Church choir for 50 years; she was also a past member of the Helping Hands Rebekah Lodge in Hantsport, Hantsport Memorial Com­munity Center, Kenwo Golf & Country Club, Avon Valley Golf & Country Club and Windsor Curling Club.

    It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Alene “May” Stevens, 96 of Hantsport at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor on August 17, 2021. Born in Avonport on Sept. 11, 1924, She was the daughter of the late David and Lillian (Hughes) Lockhart and the youngest child of 14. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

    Mom met her husband of almost 60 years, Dave, while in nurse’s training in Yarmouth. She moved to Hantsport in 1943 and Dad followed after WWII.

    She worked at CKF for 30 years and made many friends along the way.

    Mom was a member of Helping Hand Rebekah Lodge and Past Nobel Grands for over 60 years. She was a past secretary for the Windsor and District Labour Council, Local 576 Union and St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. She was also a Guide Commissioner with the Canadian Girl Guides and Brownies in Hantsport.

    Mom loved to knit things for her family members and was famous for her homemade socks. Some of them even went in care packages for the troops overseas. She baked almost every day, donating to the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Hantsport for their suppers and bake sales. Her pies would fetch a pretty penny and she loved to give them to family and neighbors. She enjoyed bowling in the Hantsport Ladies League for many years. She loved to watch curling, baseball and hockey and especially enjoyed going to baseball games to watch her son-in-law, her grandson and then her great-grandson play and to hockey to watch her great-grandson play. Many of these overnight trips, the boys would love to sit and listen to her many stories of the days of old. They were astonished by every last detail.

    She was predeceased by her husband Dave, sons Bill and Geoff, daughter Sandy Dunbar, sons-in-law Dave Best and Chuck Rogers.

    She was also predeceased by her five brothers, Otto, Gladwin, David, Will and Stewart and 8 sisters Mildred, Grace, Ella, Lillian, Hester, Edna, Jenny and Effie.

    Donations in her memory may be made to HMCC Baseball Program, Hantsport Fire Department or a charity of your choice.

    We would like to thank the staff of Shoreham Village and Dykeland Lodge for the care they gave to mom during her stay.

    As per her wishes, Mom’s body has been donated to Dalhousie Department of Neuroscience.

    A Celebration of Life service will be held from Monday August 23, 2021 from 2 pm to 4pm at the Hantsport Baptist Church, 6 Willow Street, Hantsport, N. S. Please bring your mask and abide social distancing guidelines.

    Burial will be at a later date.

    It is with great sorrow, we, the family of Judith Ann Sanford, age 79, of Berwick, announce her passing on November 11, 2020 at the Valley Hospice in Kentville. Born in Wolfville on March 17, 1941, Judith “Judy” was the daughter of the late Victor and Jennie Forsythe (nee Lockhart).

    She spent many of her growing up years in Wolfville and in Berwick, before moving to Hantsport as a teenager. It would be in Hantsport that she married, raised her family, and made many close and lasting friendships over the next 50 years.

    In her later years, Judy moved to Berwick to be closer to her grandchildren, who were so very special to her. In her working years, Judy was employed for several years at CKF and then at the NSLC store in Hantsport. Wherever she went, she was known for her warm personality, her wit, and her love of a good laugh. She kept her sense of humour right to the end, despite the suffering she endured from her illnesses. She didn’t care about pretenses, worldly things, or the entrapments of life - but always welcomed company and a chat and the banter that would most certainly ensue.

    Back in the day, she was known for her homemade bread, rolls, and tea biscuits. Before her illnesses, she could most often be found doing jigsaw puzzles, playing her keyboard, or riding shotgun, being chauffeured all over the place by her ‘partner in crime’, Doug.

    Visits from family, friends, and neighbours were what she lived for.

    Besides her parents, Judy was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon Sanford; and brothers Cameron and Carl Forsythe.

    Doug, Crystal, and Carol would like to express a deep gratitude to all those who helped us during mom’s illness. Very special thanks to the valley Palliative Care team, VON, Staff on Medical B at VRH, and to the Valley Hospice staff for their unwavering quest to ensure mom’s comfort in her final phase of life. Your kindness and empathy will not be forgotten.

    In keeping with Judy’s wishes, cremation will take place. A graveside service will be held Friday, November 20, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the Riverbank Cemetery in Hantsport. In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation or a charity of choice.

    Of Loon Lake, Hopewell, passed away, March 14, 2014. Bill was born in Yarmouth, on April 25, 1944, and was a son of May Stevens, Hantsport, and the late David Stevens. His greatest dream came true when he was able to move to his cottage at Loon Lake, at the age of 52. Here, he and his wife, Jean, were able to live life to the fullest, making many friends, and living the dream. His greatest passion was the outdoors, hunting, fishing, ATV-ing and snow­mobiling. At the time of his death, he was employed with Tru North Communications in New Glasgow. For 30 years previous, he had been employed with Trebley Food Bro­kerage and Amca Food Brokerage. He was prede­ceased by his brother, Geoff; sister, Sandy Dunbar.
