Leah Alberta BOWER — Shelburne

Age 89 of Shelburne, passed away Monday June 12, 2023, at Roseway Hospital. Born in Hantsport, NS on November 24, 1933, daughter of the late William C. Reid and Josephine B. (Allen) Reid, lived her happy early childhood at North Grand Pré. Later years were lived at other parts of Kings and Hants counties. Leah took her CNA nursing course at the NS Sanatorium Kentville in 1952. Following her training, she worked at Kentville Sanatorium, Western San. Ontario, for six months, then worked at Roseway Hospital, Shelburne. She was an active member of the Hospital auxiliary, working at both the gift shop and NU2U shop for several years as a volunteer. She was a member of the Trinity United Church, and taught Sunday school for over 20 yrs. Leah enjoyed people, and had a great sense of humour. In her later years, she cared for diabetic patients in their own homes and at the hospital. She had many close ladies and friends. She married her husband Lawrence A. Bower in 1957. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Lawrence A Bower (June 2012); son, Michael L Bower (August 2022); stepsister, Mary Bay and stepmother, Vera. Leah babysat many small children in her home. She enjoyed them so much, taking them to skate with her grandchildren. One of the favourite foods she enjoyed making was mustard pickles, giving away many jars.
