    Died:
Porter, Donald Willis Sr., age 84, Hantsport, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2010, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on August 12, 1925, in Falmouth, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Albert Judson Porter and Hulda Blanche (Lenihan) Porter. He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 46 years, Dorothy (Demings) Porter, in July 1996. Dad began his career in sales at age 17, working for his uncle, George Lenihan in Kentville. He and Mum were married in Hantsport, in October 1949, and beginning in January 1950, he worked for Hants Wholesalers, Windsor, and then Halifax Wholesalers in Halifax. In 1965, he made the move to CKF Inc., Hantsport, from where he retired as Sales Manager Atlantic in 1989. He was devoted to supporting his wife and family. Visits from grandchildren and more recently, great grandchildren were cherished. He always looked forward to his visits to his second family at R & G's Family Restaurant, for coffee and conversation, where he spent many an enjoyable hour. Anyone who knew Dad was aware of his passion for the stock market, his love of playing solitaire, and his ability to keep winning at cribbage until the very end. Besides his parents and his wife, Dorothy; he was predeceased by brothers, Stan Porter and Everett Porter; brothers-in-law, Charles "Bud" Dodge; Ronald Sheehy; Walter Chipman; and sister-in-law, Shirley Porter. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. There was no visitation, funeral or flowers by request. Family and friends were welcomed to a committal service for Dad, at Riverbank Cemetery, Riverbank Drive, Hantsport, 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27th, 2010. The Rev. Glennis Smith officiated, followed by a reception at the family home, 7 Maple Avenue, Hantsport, after the interment. Donations in memory were requested to be made to the Hantsport Food Bank (PO Box 545, Hantsport, NS - B0P 1P0); the Hantsport Fire Department (PO Box 503, Hantsport, NS - B0P 1P0) or to a charity of your choice. Special thanks to Dr. Iona Wile and Dawn Lowe, NP, staff of Northwood Homecare Ltd., Tim & Jo Hazel for "being there", Mary Robarts, Hantsport Fire Department Response Team, EHS and staff at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, for your compassion and care in Dad's time of need.
