    • Margaret Jessie \'Isabel\' (Kinnaird) Palmeter

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Isabel Palmeter, age 86, of Windsor (Curry’s Corner) on November 5th, 2016. Born in Weyburn, Sask., she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Edith (Fletcher) Kinnaird and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Gordon; her sister, Louise; and her beloved husband, Reginald, \'Reg\'.

Raised in Saskatchewan, she moved to Nova Scotia in 1947 where she graduated from Provincial Normal College (1948), Acadia University (BSc. 1951), and Mount Saint Vincent University (MA. 1972). Following graduation from Acadia, she taught in River Hebert, Truro, and Windsor, until her retirement in 1990. During her professional career she was very active in both the Nova Scotia and Canadian Home Economics Associations; served as a president of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union Local; was active in Status of Women organizations including serving as a delegate in 1980 to the World Conference on Women in Copenhagen; and as a member of Phi Delta Kappa, an educators organization dedicated to the promotion of high-quality publicly supported education. She also served as president of the Windsor Daycare Society.

In her retirement she was an active member of the West Hants Historical Society, the Canadian Federation of University Women and embraced her particular passions for genealogy, gardening, and travelling. Declaring that she had seen enough of Europe, she travelled in recent years to South Africa, Tahiti, Patagonia, Russia and China. She very much enjoyed her rug-hooking and bridge groups. She had an intense devotion to her family that was followed by an avid enthusiasm for curling and golfing. She was a member of the Windsor Curling Club since 1964 and was a member of the 1993 Provincial Senior Mixed Champion team. When curling was not a seasonal option, as a member of the Avon Valley Golf Club, she would play 80 games a year. Isabel’s unfailing curiosity and voracious thirst for knowledge combined with a wry sense of humour and love of adventure made her an explorer of the world, which she experienced to the fullest.
