- McGINN, Joseph Donald
Age 86, of Hantsport, passed away after an illness surrounded by his loving family on March 25, 2016. Born in Halifax, Joe was the youngest son of the late Charles J. and Jessie (Stokes) McGinn. Joe was educated at St. Patrick’s School and attended Saint Mary’s University and Nova Scotia Technical College. As the Town Clerk and Treasurer of Hantsport for 34 years (1963-1997) he filled many roles as town engineer, manager, administrator, computer expert, justice of the peace, accountant and counsel. He served on several boards in his community: the Hantsport Board of Police Commissionaires, Hantsport Recreation Commission and Hantsport School Board. He was involved in the inception and planning of seniors homes Dykeland Lodge, Windsor and Jubilee Lodge, Hantsport and served on their boards of directors in many capacities. An active member of the community, Joe was distinguished as an honorary firefighter by the Hantsport Fire Department. Additionally, he and his family supported and enjoyed the Hantsport Memorial Community Centre (HMCC). In retirement Joe enjoyed life with his wife Fay and family on the banks of the Avon River. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Eugene. In lieu of flowers, donations in support of Hantsport Memorial Community Centre would be kindly appreciated.
