- MOSHER, Ervin Clyde
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and Grampie on June 14, 2016, at the age of 65, with his family at his side. Ervin was born in Wolfville and was the only child of Earl and Dorothy (Banes) Mosher. Erv spent his childhood in Wolfville, largely at the Acadia Ice Palace, where he played hockey and later maintained the ice. In his early years, Erv was a member of the Wolfville Volunteer Fire Department for nearly a decade and after a short career as a meat-cutter and painter, followed his father into what would be his life’s work - policing. Erv started as a Special Constable with the Wolfville Police Department and in 1975 moved to the Hantsport Police Department, where he had the occasion to meet a young clerk at the Hantsport Town Office (he and Brenda would later be married in 1986). He returned to the Wolfville Police Department in 1991 and became a member of the RCMP when it absorbed the policing role in Wolfville in 2000. Erv was then transferred to Hants County in 2004 where he worked for both Windsor Municipal and Rural RCMP Detachments. Erv concluded his career as a Community Policing Officer in Hantsport. However, before Erv’s retirement, he presented his son, Justin, his RCMP badge upon his graduation of becoming an RCMP Officer in Regina in 2009. Erv went into policing because he wanted to make a difference; in his 37 years he faithfully served the public, relentlessly teased his partners and colleagues, and was a consummate professional to those he helped. Many a story of \'Mosher\' has and will be told. Erv was a loyal, lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Maple Leafs, and a season ticket holder for Acadia Axemen hockey. He took great pride in his home and property and could often be found somewhere in his well-manicured yard. Despite a fulfilling professional and family life, Ervin had always felt that something was missing. This void was filled when he became a member of Mount Denson Baptist Church and was baptized in 2014. Erv attended church regularly and took great pride in singing in the choir. All of this brought him great comfort and peace, particularly during his final fight. Ervin’s family would like to express sincere gratitude to the Palliative Care Staff at Hants Community Hospital and the VON for their sincere care and compassion.
