    • Kathryn Lorraine Bishop
Age 72, of Greenwich, Kings Co., formerly of Hantsport and Falmouth. It is with broken hearts we announce she has joined the angels on Saturday, April 2, 2022 in the Valley Hospice, Kentville. She has joined her mother and sister who went before just a short time ago. Kathy was born on Saturday, October 29, 1949 to Chauncey “Duke” and Eleanor (Cochrane) Caldwell, the third of seven children.

She attended Hantsport School and furthered her education as a registered nurse in the program provided by Payzant Memorial Hospital in Windsor. Upon graduation from nursing school, she married the man she loved, John R. Bishop and they resided in Hantsport for many years. In later years they lived in Falmouth and then in Greenwich.

According to the poem, Monday’s Child, a child born on a Saturday worked hard for a living. Kathy worked as a nurse until retirement, except for one short career in a bakery. Her baking career may not have been as successful but provided a much needed and short break until her return to her nursing career with the Windsor Elms. Kathy was highly regarded and respected by her peers and the residents, not just as a nurse but as an intelligent, caring and compassionate person. So, yes, this Saturday child worked extremely hard for a living.

Baseball played a large part in her married life, as John was a baseball player and her sons both played baseball. She spent and enjoyed, many hours at ballfields.

She, her sisters and their mother joined together every year for a weekend away which included many activities and much laughter. During one trip, Kathy attempted and was successful in mounting a penny farthing bike, much to the delight of the others. These were special times and provided very treasured memories for her.

Kathy loved puzzles, games (not cards!), crafts and reading. Her favourite games were word games and there were few words that she did not use in Scrabble. Players learned not to question her.

She thoroughly enjoyed combing beaches around Nova Scotia, searching for sea glass and once she had gathered a fairly large amount, she so kindly returned to walk the beaches while dropping the sea glass so others could enjoy finding it as she had. This is who she was.

She had a wonderful sense of humour and could laugh at herself. She one time admitted to driving around the coffee shop several times after placing her order because she was unable to find the take-out window. There were no witnesses to this event, except the woman waiting on her but she shared this story with much laughter.

She was a wonderful friend to many and offered her help whenever she could. She was an extremely important member of her family and will be greatly missed by all who love her.

As a mother of two boys, she took great joy in teaching her grandson, Camden, at a young age, to play in the puddles, splash in the mud and explore the brook that ran through their property.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her dear sister, Heather Bulger; father-in-law, Richard Bishop Sr. and mother-in-law, Florence Bishop.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Valley Regional Hospital, the Valley Hospice, and NP Dawn Lowe for her assistance.

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will greet visitors Monday, April 11 from 6-8 p.m., masks are encouraged. A public graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the Wellwood Community Hall at the Hantsport Baptist Church, corner of Main and Willow St., Hantsport. Donations in memory of Kathy may be made to Windsor Elms Village, 174 Dyke Rd., Falmouth, NS B0P 1L0; Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St, Halifax, NS, B3H 1S6 or a charity of one’s choice.
