- Norman Kenneth Murphy, age 102, of Mt. Denson, Hants County, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle. Born on March 3, 1915, in Simpson’s Corner, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Harold and Mary (Marks) Murphy of Tangier, Nova Scotia.
Dad started out working as a lobster fisherman alongside his father in Tangier. He moved to Mt. Denson as a young man and worked on the Dakeyne Farm and the Davis Farm. He was one of the first mail carriers for the area. The bulk of his working years were spent at Avon Foods in Hantsport, where he was a foreman for 35 years, from which he retired. After he retired he became a flea market enthusiast and repaired many bicycles and lawn mowers. He thoroughly enjoyed this time tinkering in his shed. After 69 years of separation, Dad was reunited with some of his biological family and enjoyed many visits with his brother, Bernard Hyson and his family and met other members from his Hyson family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Mary; his wife of 66 years, Frances (Moore) (2005); sons, Danny (1982) and James (2014); grandson, Todd (2014); and great-grandson, Billy Cleveland (2007).
