- BECKWITH, Donald Smith
Age 98, of Martin’s River, formerly of Hantsport, passed away peacefully in Fisherman\'s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, on Sunday, January 4, 2015, with his family by his side. Born in Hants Border, Kings Co. to Ebenezer and Sarah E. (Hutchinson) Beckwith on September 8, 1916. Beside his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Stanton, Wilfred, Helen Robinson, Ross, Abbie (infancy), John, and Cecil. He was a member of Western Shore United Baptist Church and Poynts Lodge No. 44, A.F & A.M. in Hantsport. Recently, he was presented with his 65-year service bar at his home in Martin’s River. He owned and operated Don’s Motel and Restaurant in Hantsport for 25 years, semi-retiring to Martin’s River where, after a year, he went to work at Scotia Trawler. He was an avid boater, camper and card player. Don learned to play piano at 70, sang solos at church at 85, and took up painting again at 97. Family and friends were always welcome. Interment will be in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, followed by a reception in the church hall.
