- BRADLEY, FREDA WINNIFRED
Freda Winnifred Bradley, 63, Halifax & Dartmouth, most recently of Enfield, passed away Friday, October 19, 2007 in the VG Site, QEII. Born May 31, 1944 in Saint John, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Reverend Hubert and Anne Ruth Doody. Freda attended Dalhousie University and obtained her BA in 1965 and later worked at Baycrest Jewish Home For The Aged in Toronto. She later graduated with her Masters from the Maritime School of Social Work in 1980. In the Halifax area, she worked at the Department of Community services and later at the Department of Mental Health at the Nova Scotia Hospital as well as at Bedford Sackville Mental Health Clinic. Freda had worked for the department of Mental Health for 20 years during which time she was very socially active in her community as well as championing many social causes on a broader scale as head of the social Action Committee within the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers, having served as vice and then later president of NSASW, working for equality and improving the life of those less fortunate and being the voice of those in need. Freda retired after 20 years of work in the Mental Health field. After her retirement, as well as during her tenure, she devoted much of her time to such causes and was a member of many groups for Social Action and change. She made many dear friends through this journey of devotion and compassion. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Arthur Edward Cornwall, who was a notable turn of the century photographer in the Hantsport area. Interment in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. In lieu of flowers, donations in Freda's memory to Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation, Dalhousie Cancer Research Program, Cancer Care Nova Scotia or charity of choice are welcomed.
