- DODGE (Porter), Olive Marie
1922 - 2014. The family of the late Olive Marie (Porter) Dodge are saddened to share that Olive passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014, at the age of 91. The first child of the late Albert and Hulda (Lenihan) Porter, Olive lived the last 10 years of her life in Falmouth/ Windsor, where she grew up as a child. Olive lived the majority of her life in Fall River on the shores of the waterfront she loved so much, Lake Thomas. Olive moved from Fall River in August 2004 and moved to Gladys Manning Retirement Home in Windsor, where she lived for seven years, moving to Dykeland Lodge, and then The Elms in Falmouth, where she lived for the past 18 months. Olive was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Charles L. \'Bud\' Dodge, in May of 2001. She was predeceased by her siblings, Stanley Porter (Windsor), Everett Porter (Windsor), Donald Porter (Hantsport), Maxine (Porter) Trask (Sydney); brothers-in-law, Ronald Sheehy (Falmouth) and Carl Dodge (Fall River); as well as sisters-in-law, Donna Dodge (Halifax), Dorothy Porter (Hantsport), and Shirley Porter (Falmouth). Olive was an RN, graduating from the VG School of Nursing in 1946. She worked at the Halifax Infirmary for most of her career, but also worked at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Mass. Olive was a lifetime member of the UCW (United Church Women) and over her life served on the PTA at Fall River School, the Women’s Auxiliary of the Cheema Aquatic Club, was a regular participant in Engineering Wives events. An avid knitter, Olive was known to knit most of Bud’s socks. With the use of multiple rubber bands, Olive always found a new purpose for an item that it was never designed for. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care providers who looked after Mum over the years: Theresa, Barb, Doreen, and Rosemary at the Manning, and so many of the wonderful nurses, LPNs and CCAs at Dykeland and The Elms.
