- CHITTICK, Roberta Mae
Passed away October 27, 2013, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Roberta was born in her family home January 6, 1935 in Eureka, Pictou Co. to Annabelle (MacKay) and Alexander Mackenzie. During her youth Roberta’s gifted singing voice and performances were the pride of her parents and local community; after high school Roberta studied nursing and in 1956 graduated from the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. Roberta went on to pursue an illustrious career as a registered nurse with clinical specialties in Maternal Child (Natural Child Birth), Emergency and Geriatrics. A natural leader throughout her career and in her community, Roberta was a pioneer in social activism lending her power, voice, time and efforts toward supporting feminist ideologies. Roberta was the president of the Simcoe County Kiwanis, helped open the MacLaren Art Centre and the Barrier Rape Crisis Centre. Roberta loved gardening, was an avid curler, bridge player and enjoyed taking on an engaged role in political debate and social issues. Publicly Roberta sat on many boards and committees and in her community. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 767 Main St.
