Burpee Witter, Wolfville, NS. 1886; removed to Amherst and entered employ of Dunlap Bros. & Co. 1889; eventually became
      Manager, Dry Goods Department; purchased Dry Goods business of Dunlap Bros. & Co, 1899; incorporated as Martins Ltd., and became Managing Director, 1907; bought out Millinery business of Lord & Drewery, 1910: was the first to start cash system in Amherst. President. Board of Trade, 1913-1914; President, Maritime Publicity Association, 1913, President, 1914-15. of the Baptist Annuity Board of the Maritime Provinces; Divisional Representative of the Publicity Section of the Canada Food Board for Cumberland and part of Colchester and Pictou Counties, Chairman for Cumberland County in the big Red Cross Campaign to raise $4,369,000 for Canada, 1918.
