    • HOOD (Rushton), Arlene Audrey

Age 75, of Mount Denson, Hants Co., passed away in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Born in Springhill, on June 22, 1944, to the late Norma \'Audrey\' (Burden) Fillmore and Caleb Rushton. Growing up she attended Springhill Baptist Church and took part in the Sunday school, Mission Band, Girl Guides, Brownies and BYPU Youth Group. After her education in the Springhill schools, she trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Nova Scotia Sanitarium in Kentville. This was when she met her husband to be, Norman. Arlene worked at V.G. in Halifax before moving to Toronto and working at the Hospital for Sick children. Arlene and Norman married in 1967, and they had their children in 1970 and 1972. She went to work at Queensway Hospital before moving back to Nova Scotia in 1975. After a short time at Hants Community Hospital, she went to work at Canadian Keys Fiber. Although Arlene enjoyed nursing and her patient contact, the work at CKF gave her Sundays and holidays off to be with her family. Arlene retired after 30 years of service at the end of 2006. As a member of Mount Denson Baptist Church, she was always active serving in various positions as needed, such as a Sunday school teacher and on many other committees. She was President of the \'Ladies Circle\', a group she initiated in 1998. Arlene also served as a Deacon for over 20 years. Her Lord and church were very important to her. Arlene bowled with the Falmouth Mixed League for many years and missed it when she had to give it up due to her health. She was also a member of the \'Minas Waves\' Seniors Club. Upon retirement she faced a knee replacement and a mastectomy. After her treatments, she was happy to be on the go and enjoy all the new adventures that came her way such as a trip to Disney, a Panama cruise, a trip to Jamaica, Tidal Bore rafting and a Hot Air Balloon ride. She also enjoyed any time she could spend with family or friends, travelling far and near to see them. Arlene enjoyed needle work for many years but the computer became her new pastime. It helped her keep in touch with her New Zealand pen pal that she had since 1959. Arlene was especially proud of her children for becoming such great and capable individuals. She was also happy to see them married and doing well with loving spouses. Arlene was so proud of her granddaughter, Rose for becoming such a beautiful person inside and out. Arlene was predeceased by mother, Audrey Fillmore; father, Caleb Rushton and stepfather, James Fraser. Funeral to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 19th, 2019, in Hantsport Baptist Church, Rev. Heather Card is officiating, followed by a reception in the Church Hall. A Private family interment will be in Mount Denson Cemetery.
