883 Laurie Graham Smith
It is with great sadness that the family of Laurie announce his peaceful passing, at age 90, on March 13, 2022, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. He was born April 7, 1931, in Hants Border, a son of the late Walter and Elta (Starratt) Smith. Dad was a man of few words, with a great sense of humour and a twinkle in his blue eyes. Laurie spent his early years working on the family farm. In the early 1950s he headed west, stopping in the Ottawa Valley to work in the bush and at the sawmill, and to do some farming. He then moved further west on the Harvest Excursion to experience farming in the Prairies. On his return home, he once again stopped in Ontario to drive a taxi. It was then that he picked up the best passenger ever - Betty, his wife of 67 years. They married and moved back to Nova Scotia to raise their family. Laurie truly enjoyed many years of driving trucks, before switching gears and selling his truck to drive a school bus. However, he continued to love “talking truck” with all who would listen, so pleased that many of his sons and sons in law followed in his footsteps. Even as his memory began to fade, Dad often spoke to Mom about needing to move his trailer. Laurie’s other great hobby was showing draft horses. Originally a Belgian man, he eventually changed over to Percherons and never looked back. Laurie’s was a familiar face at many area agricultural exhibitions over the years, and he made many great friends along the way. Laurie was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, and will certainly be missed. He was always very proud of his family, and a grin would show on his face at their antics. We have all added many of his famous phrases to our vocabulary, such as “that’s why we can’t have nice things” and “go tell your mother she wants you.” For a quiet man, he gave us many classics which will last for generations to come. Laurie was predeceased by his parents, his brother Lamont (Buster), and his sister Karleen, and his grandson Chadwick Smith. Donations in memory may be made to Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, or a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to extend a sincere Thank You to the entire staff at Dykeland Lodge. Burial will be held at a later date in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.

891 Lewis Burton "Papa" IRVINE — Berwick/Hantsport

Age 92. It is with great sadness that we announce Dad’s passing on December 17, 2022, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Waterville, Kings Co., on November 21, 1930, he was a son of the late Frederick William Payzant Irvine and Elsie Tupper (Murphy) Irvine. Lewis was a graduate of Mack Business College, Kentville, and was hired by R.A. Jodrey in accounting for the Minas Basin Pulp and Power to which he was devoted to for 43 years until retirement. He was a member of Hantsport Baptist Church and a proud member of Hantsport Volunteer Fire Department with 30 years of service. He worked tirelessly with the department. Among many other duties, he drove the ambulance and acted as treasurer. Safety was paramount for Dad. Growing up on the family farm in Grafton left him a love of gardening that remained a lifelong passion. Growing vegetables in the backyard and having a selection of five on our plate every dinner time was one of his gifts to us. In retirement Dad began to walk for his health. He could be found on any of several routes twice every day, including holidays. He loved every part of this, especially waving to folks and reporting back the sights. Lewis remained very close to his siblings and families. On the weekends, going to Berwick to visit was routine. Lewis was predeceased by son, Gregory Lewis Irvine; aunt, Frena Marie Irvine; sisters, Doris Helen Irvine and Jean Marie Irvine; brothers, Ronald Dean and Bernard Kenneth Irvine; brother-in-law Lewis Chute. We want to thank the paramedics, the stroke team, the emergency department and all staff of Valley Regional for the care and respect for Dad and for our family during these few difficult days. “Lew” was loved and cared for like family when he and “Lil” moved to Orchard Villa, 244 Commercial St., Berwick, in June 2019. 895 Lisa Dawn Wood, age 33, Brooklyn, Hants County, passed away at QEII Health Sciences Centre on May 10, 2015. It is with profound sadness that we say good-bye to our Hants County warrior. Through her blog: http://livinglovinglaughingfighting.blogspot.ca Lisa was able to put into words her daily battle with cancer. She touched the lives of so many inspiring and motivating people all over the world. Her courage, strength, determination and fear was put before all to read. Lisa brought people together in a way like no other. She taught us all how to fight for what you believe and want. Lisa was a REALTOR® with Annapolis Valley Real Estate Board and she helped many families fulfil their dream of owning a home. She fulfilled her obligations as a REALTOR® the same way she did everything in life - with compassion, attention to detail and professionalism, to be sure her clients were taken care of. Lisa was a friend like no other. Like the words of the song "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" she was the fearless leader who all her "Buds" could go to and was there any time of day or night. Lisa held you accountable through your own life journey, always there to offer advice but letting you choose your own path at the same time ("right little sister, Theresa"). Lisa's family would like you to join them for a celebration of her life "Hants County" style at Peterson's Campground, Kempt Shore. Bring your picnic, chairs and guitars. Lisa loved a good party and this is what she shall have. Date and time will be announced when final arrangements are complete. Wood, Lisa Dawn (I17264)
