567 Doris Elizabeth Fraser

Age 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9,2023 in Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. She was born on July 24, 1926 in Truro to the late William and Ella M. (Bissett) Gunn.

Doris grew up in Hantsport where she married Bob and they brought up their family. Mom loved working with numbers and worked at the Bank of Commerce as a teller on and off over the years. At one time she owned a small dry goods store on Main Street. During their time in Hantsport her and Bob were members of the local United Church, where mom, fittingly, enjoyed her role as treasurer of the UCW. Mom liked to sew and was an avid knitter. The click of knitting needles was a familiar sound. We all benefited from her sweaters and socks, mittens and afghans. She enjoyed trying new recipes and some of her favorites are still being enjoyed. She was a multitalented lady who knew how to stretch a dollar. When the family was young they bought an old fishing camp. With no electricity or modern plumbing it made for some very interesting and great memories. They had a big change in life in 1976 when they bought The Wildwood Motel in Shelburne where they were before they retired in 1984. The next years were spent in Mt. Uniacke until 1998 when they downsized to their condo in Bedford. Mom loved the sun and her frugal ways made it possible for her and Dad to enjoy many winters south after their retirement, whether it was on one of the southern islands or at a condo in Florida. To most Mom was a quiet reserved lady but she did not shy away from an adventure. She topped it all off by parasailing above the waters of the Dominican Republic when she was 87! It was certainly a life well lived!!

Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Bob (2022) and her only sister, Isobel Griffiths.

She and Bob will be laid to rest at a later date in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.
Gunn, Doris Elizabeth (I8749)

In October 2020, she was honoured as "Life Deacon" in appreciation of a life of service by her church. She enjoyed cooking (her holiday turkey dinners were like no other), working in her yard, helping her church community, word-search puzzles, chatting with neighbors/friends and being surrounded by family. She was predeceased by husband, Joseph "Joe" and brother, Harold Parrish. A very special thank you to Dr. Cathryn Smith and nurses of the palliative care unit at Hants Community Hospital. As well, a very special thank you to her neighbors in the Evangeline Drive neighborhood; your thoughtfulness toward mom and dad over the past years will always be remembered. If ever there was an angel among us, it was Mom/Nanny. She is with Dad now, her loving husband of 56 years, who has been waiting for her. A memorial service is planned for both Mom and Dad, June 29, 2021, their wedding anniversary. Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to Hantsport Baptist Church or charity of your choice.

597 Elva Mae Peach
Just three days after her 72nd birthday, on Monday, June 28, 2021, Elva passed away suddenly at home in Falmouth, going on to be with her loved ones who passed before her. Born on June 25, 1949, she was a daughter of the late Reg and Lindy (Bezanson) Crowell.

Besides her parents, Elva was predeceased by her in-laws, Rex and Nora Peach; son-in-law, Marc Blue; brother, Laurie Crowell and grandsons, Logan Blue and Addison Hopkins.

Elva was the salt of the earth. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and the best Grammie to all her kids, blood or not. You could always count on Mom to be there for all and everyone. She had the amazing gift of knowing when someone needed her, a friend, a pick me up, a plate of cookies, a pie or a shoulder to cry on…never judging, just being her Elva way.

At the age of 12 she began sharing her voice of an angel at weddings, anniversaries, funerals, churches, community choirs, family gatherings, camping sing songs and kitchen parties bringing the love of music wherever she went. She loved GOD and her church family whole-heartedly and lived her life through her undying faith. Guaranteed she is now directing a choir of angels in heaven. She loved her job of 52 years as a hairstylist beautifying clients, friends, family and nursing home clients, as well as for 25 years, funeral clients. Her clients held a special place in her heart, they were never just clients, they were her friends.

Mom, along with her partner in crime, were passionate of their many travels and passed on their love of day trips, camping, travelling and exploring, to their children. She has multiple journals of all their road trips across Canada and the USA, with Florida being one of her favorite winter vacations.

A private invite only funeral service, keeping with COVID-19 guidelines will be held in Falmouth Baptist Church with Rev. Gail Whalen-Dunn officiating. COVID-19 guidelines must be respected and we thank you for understanding. Mom’s Church was her second home, if you wish to make donations in her memory, please do so to the Falmouth Baptist Church, 404 Town Rd., Falmouth, NS B0P 1L0 and/or do an Elva thing and provide a random act of kindness for someone, as Elva was always known to do.
