372 Arthur W. Graham, 66, mariner, pioneer river steamboat operator and ship designer, died at his home, 761 East Lincoln street, Friday following an attack of heart trouble. Funeral services will be held at 1 P. M. Monday at the Portland crematorium.

Mr. Graham had been foreman of the Burnside bridge since the completion of the span two years ago. He sprang from a family stock whose history was rich in the lore of the sea. His forebearers on both sides of the family for three generations back had been master mariners. When a mere lad he went down to the sea and sailed before the mast. In 1885 he came to Portland and had made his home here since.

He was well known as a master mariner and river steamboat man. With his two brothers, A. B. Graham and John N. Graham, he owned and conducted the Oregon City Transportation company, which operated a fleet of river boats on the Willamette between Portland and Corvallis from 1886 to 1919. The names of the boats owned by the company ended in “ona.” Many of them were designed by Mr. Graham, who was an expert in that line. The most famous were the Altona, the Pomona and the Grahamona. It was said that he could perform the duties of any man on a boat with equal skill.

He is survived by his widow, Anna L. Graham; two children, Clyde C. and Lena A. Graham of Portland; two brothers, A. B. Graham of Portland and John N. Graham of Seaside, and three sisters, Mrs. G. Fox and Mrs. R. D. Morrill of Portland and Mrs. William Anderson of Oregon City. Remains are at Finley’s mortuary.

Of Hants Border. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey Cox. Mum passed away peacefully Friday, January 1, 2021 in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, with family by her side. Predeceased by brothers, Perley, Arnold, and Fred; sister, Gladys; and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Stuckey, John Macdonald, and Bernard Grant. Mum was a huge fan sitting in the grandstands at horse shows across Nova Scotia. She was often heard cheering her children and friends to victory. Their adventures took them as far West as Winnipeg, Man., and as far south as Florida, USA, with stops at many destinations along the way. They spent many fun-filled winters in Florida with friends old and new. Being die-hard Bluegrass fans, Mum and Dad attended festivals across the Maritime Provinces and North Eastern United States. They often hosted "Sunday morning big breakfast with floats". Friend ships made through these festivals have been many and ever-lasting. 394 Basil Cameron

Proud Maritimer, passionate entrepreneur, and amazing family man left us quietly and peacefully on November 27th. He bravely faced his short but challenging battle with a rapidly progressive dementia, and took off for his final maritime expedition - in the sky. Basil’s love for boating and fishing was passed down to his sons at a very early age. At the young age of 6, Basil tested out his noteworthy entrepreneurial talent selling small fish (gaspereau) on a stick to neighbours. That talent, mixed with a sprinkling of bravado, was a hallmark of his business life, and part of the legacy he leaves with his boys. After graduating from Acadia University, he began a career as a computer specialist. He founded and managed Corporate Computer Training Systems, and then Pegasus Consulting. In his later years, he embarked on and thoroughly enjoyed a venture in real estate. Basil was born in Summerside, PEI, on October 13th, 1951. His parents, Benjamin and Loretta (later MacDonald) Cameron and his brother Joseph, predeceased him. Cremation has taken place and ashes will be sprinkled on the water, in keeping with Basil’s love of all things marine, and so that he can keep on travelling the waves.

399 BECKWITH (Hazlett), Debra Eileen \'Debbie\'

It is with warm hearts and loving memories that we remember the life of Debra Eileen (Hazlett) Beckwith, age 59, of Lockhartville. Surrounded by those who loved her, Debbie fought a valiant battle with cancer and earned her wings on Friday, October 6th, 2017. Debbie cherished her family. Her family was the light of her life, and she felt so blessed and grateful to be able to share this world with each of them. She went to every ball game and hosted countless sleepovers, movie nights and family dinners. She understood the importance of spending her time with the ones she held dearest. Debbie was predeceased by her father and mother-in-law, John and Esther Beckwith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eben, Lois, and Samuel Beckwith; Jim Burgess; Shelia and Alton Allen; and Michael Haley. Debbie had an entrepreneurial spirit and was driven to give her all to each venture she embarked upon. She enjoyed a career in the banking industry with the Bank of Montreal in Wolfville, and later with CIBC in Kentville. She spent more than ten years in the cottage industry of soap-making, with her mother as her partner. Annapolis Valley Soaps provided her the flexibility to raise her babies, express her artistry and to enjoy the effort of building a successful business. Once her children were raised, she followed the footsteps of her father and became a Realtor. She spent the last ten years helping people find the spaces in which they would raise their families and live their lives. Debbie put her heart and soul into every endeavour she undertook and those who had the chance to work with her, or to be served by her, were better for it. Like her namesake, Debbie was graceful and kind. She constantly thought of others and went out of her way to make people feel welcome, comfortable and appreciated. Her home was always open, and she truly meant it when she said, \'the more, the merrier\'. There was nothing that gave her more pleasure than being surrounded by her family and her friends. She had the most beautiful way of seeing the good in people and her authenticity was inspiring. She was strong and vibrant, gentle and true.
