| 1001 | MCLELLAN-MACDONALD, Shirley Nancy No doubt Shirley Nancy McLellan-MacDonald is reading this obituary with a cup of coffee in hand and smiling. As part of her morning routine, she would read the Chronicle Herald from cover to cover, including the obituaries. And now, her name appears. Mom was 88 years young when she passed away suddenly on June 24, 2020 in Haliburton Place, Windsor. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Meda (Tufts) Wile; her first husband, James McLellan; her second husband, Ralph "Rassie" MacDonald and sisters, Ermie Coolen, Lily Russell, Florence Silver, Hilda Neily and her sweet dog, Teddy. Mom loved family visits. She made the best rocky road squares and hodge podge in Nova Scotia- "It’s all in the cream," she’d say. Other passions included tending her summertime flowers at her Mount Denson home, which she shared with Ralph. "The secret is talking to them," she confided. She could sit in her sunporch for hours and watch the birds in the yard. Pretty sure she named them all. And nothing topped a bowl of fresh strawberries and cream. "It’s all in the cream and lots of sugar." Mom loved to play Big Mama with Ralph and laughed victoriously when she emerged champion. We would hear about it on the phone the following day. Music was another of mom’s loves. Sometimes she’d startle those around her when she spontaneously belted out all the words of a song at a moment’s notice, triggered by something you said. Christmas was a winter wonderland at mom’s place. She’d say, "Just one more thing!" and add another decoration. She loved shopping, but particularly in December. When she walked into a store before Christmas, you could see the managers rub their hands together with glee. Later, the lobby of Macleod House where mom resided for 18 months became the new wonderland setting. During her final days at Haliburton Place, mom was fortunate to have her sister, Laverne, as her roommate. Yes, Laverne and Shirley. They were typical siblings sharing a room, but they dearly loved and looked out for each other. Haliburton staff were always patient and caring. Mom was fun loving and had a terrific sense of humour. She loved to make people smile and would go out of her way to elicit laughter from someone who was feeling down. Years ago, someone said that arthritis was God’s way of slowing her down. Her life was not always rosy. She suffered from depression most of her life, but she always regained the upper hand. We miss you so much mom, but you are with Rassie and Teddy now, enjoying a glass of beer and a snuggle. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, when family and friends are allowed to attend. And, at the gathering, there will hopefully be lots of hugs. Mom loved hugs. | 1004 | Megan Louise "Meg" "Meggie" DANIELS — Windsor Forks Age 30, of Windsor Forks. It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beautiful daughter, Megan on Sunday, September 11, 2022 in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Megan was one of the two bright lights in our family. She made friends wherever life took her and taught us all how to love each other regardless of the challenges which stood between us. Meggie loved life’s simple pleasures, the wind in her face while swinging on the verandah, drives in the car, bowling with friends or just hanging out holding hands with the favourite men in her life. We are going to miss Megs beautiful smile and infectious laugh! To all of Meg's friends, teachers, educational assistants and special educators who helped her over the years, thank you for helping her spread her wings and take in so much of what life had offered her. We have met some incredible people through organizations such as APSEA, Early Intervention, SMILE, The Alexander Society, New Boundaries, Kaleidoscope and the Disability Support Program. A very special thank you to Sara Woodward, Kim Zwicker and families who considered Meg one of their own. In keeping with Melba's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or memorial service held. | 1008 | Merle Gilbert Smith, of Keddys Corner, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 29, 2022, at home. Born in Hantsport, he was the oldest son of the late Frank and Della (Cox) Smith. Merle was very adamant not to reveal his age or year he was born. When asked his age, his response would have been "Old enough to know better, but too young to resist". He was an avid traveler, and it was nothing for him to decide last minute to drive across the province or country where you can bet he stopped at several yard sales along the way. His grandson Kyle remembers his Grandpa by saying "No matter what he went through or was faced with, he was always able to see the positive in everything and was always the one person I knew who would also find a way or a reason to keep smiling, staying positive and seeing the beauty in life." Merle had a special bond with his granddaughter, Sarah, and his great-grandchildren, and they always looked forward to their time together. He was lucky to have had several lifelong friends and was very soft-spoken but when he spoke you listened. Merle was an active member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 409 which had him at many job sites across the province over the years. He was predeceased by his first wife Gladys (2005); second wife Freda (2019); brother Carl; and sister Karen. | 1010 | Michael Delargy MacKillop It is with love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Michael “Mick” Delargy MacKillop, who passed away at the age of 74, on November 12th, 2020, after a lengthy illness. Michael was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on April 23rd, 1946, to the late Michael and Mona (née McCaffrey) McKillop. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Kathleen (née Doyle), her parents, his Canadian in-laws (Kathleen & Gerard Lauzière), as well as very close friends, Ronald Hazlett, and Michael Haley. Michael appreciated his opportunities in life and was always up for an adventure. Having read books on the Klondike Goldrush by Pierre Berton, Michael yearned to travel to Canada’s North. With that goal in mind, he and Kathleen, as a young couple in 1969, left Ireland and landed in Nova Scotia. They rented a room in Hantsport when they arrived, and that accommodation resulted in a life-long friendship with his “Canadian family”, the Hazletts. From Nova Scotia, they moved to Vanderhoof, B.C., then Dawson City, and Whitehorse, Yukon, and eventually on to Toronto, meeting people and touching lives along the way. While in the North, Michael embraced the Canadian culture, learning to hunt and fish like the best of them. He was proud when he became a Canadian citizen, however, his heart and soul remained in the Glens of Antrim. After Kathleen’s passing in 2002, Michael returned to Ireland, making frequent trips back to Nova Scotia and Ontario. In 2006, Michael met Thérèse and embarked on another journey of love. Together they lived in Dieppe, New Brunswick, and then Halifax, spending as much time as they could at their second home in Cushendall, Northern Ireland. Some are fortunate in this life to find one love, but Michael was blessed to have known two loves, Kathleen and Thérèse. Mick understood how fortunate he was, and loved them both with all his heart. Mick was a man of incredible talent. He was an artist, a world traveller, and a teacher. He would spend hours in his workshop, turning beautiful pieces of art to share with those who held a place in his heart. His workmanship was second-to-none, and his attention to detail shone through each piece molded through his skilled hands. In later years, Michael stepped into the art of photography and used his critical eye and technical prowess to capture beautiful images of people, nature, landscape, hockey and food. Mick was a world-traveller. His inquisitive nature and his gentle ease in interacting with people afforded him much success. He travelled extensively throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia in his younger years as a result of his career, and in later years, for pleasure. He was a connoisseur of fine food and drink, and loved to share that passion with family and friends. If you ever needed a dining recommendation, whether near or far, he frequently had a suggestion. At the core of his being, Michael was a teacher. His first job when arriving in Canada was as an industrial arts teacher at Hantsport School. He continued his teaching career across Nova Scotia, in the Yukon, and British Columbia. When his career path took a turn toward computer analytics, he stayed true to his nature, teaching software systems to organizations across the world. He had a brilliant mind, and his ability to retain and recall information was phenomenal. His soul was gentle and giving, so never did he make you feel intimidated by his ability. He shared his knowledge and experience so freely, and for that, he touched the lives of many across the world. He was a tried and true fan of the Boston Bruins, and spent many a Saturday night enjoying CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada. He was passionate, fun-loving and genuinely interested in those around him. He was always a gentleman, had a wonderful sense of humour, spoke with the most beautiful Irish accent, and had a wide-ranging and long-lived love affair with music. It is hard to say goodbye to him, but we are grateful that we had him in our lives. What a beautiful place this world is because of Michael (Mick)! His legacy will live on in everyone who had the good fortune to call him a family member or friend. A funeral mass will be said at a later date, at St. Margaret Bourgeois Church in Upper Tantallon, N.S. Due to COVID 19, this will be by invitation only. However the mass will be live-streamed, so people across the world can join in. | 1011 | Michael Neil “Mikey” MacNEIL — Wolfville Died peacefully at home with his wife, Lorna, at his side on Monday, November 21, 2022. A longtime coach and educator in the Annapolis Valley, Mike lived his life full of love, quiet strength, and dry wit. Born in Whitney Pier, N.S., in 1945, Mikey was the fourth of 10 children raised in the Ashby neighbourhood of Sydney, N.S. An air cadet and late-blooming athlete at Sydney Academy, he excelled at baseball, basketball, and soccer, leading to an interest in physical education that diverted him from the Air Force to the Nova Scotia Teacher's College in 1964. It was there, in Truro in 1965, that he gave a lift to friends and picked up a young Lorna Banks from Hantsport, another TC student. They married in their adopted home of Wolfville in 1971. After Teacher's College, Mike became the first physical education teacher at Hantsport School before heading to Xavier College and then St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, where he put his athletic skills to use playing varsity soccer and garnering a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. It was an experience and degree of which he was exceptionally proud, leading to lifelong support for his fellow X-men and X-women wherever they played. Upon graduation Mike, and eventually Lorna, took a job with the remarkable staff of Horton High School in 1971, with a lively young cohort of enthusiastic teachers, many of whom became their closest friends. Mike coached multiple sports at Horton, most prominently as head coach of the senior boys' soccer team, from 1971 to 2006. His strong, determined soccer teams finished runner up in the provincial final numerous times, yet Mike was never bitter, instead focusing on next season. He was inducted into the Horton Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and received Dr. Hugh Noble Hall of Honour in 2017. After 29 years teaching, Mike took early retirement in 1998 and devoted time to his second love, golf. Early morning weekday rounds at Ken Wo with his retired teacher friends were religiously attended. His consistent drive and careful putting led him to an eventual 6 handicap. In 2006, Mike organized a week-long pilgrimage with 11 buddies to the home of golf that would be among his fondest memories. After Lorna retired in 2007, the pair spent nearly all their winters in Florida, golfing daily and enjoying visits from their two children and beloved grandkids. Despite living with Parkinson's for more than 20 years, Mike never complained. Instead, he focused on what he did have - a loving marriage and happy family, walks with Lorna, and unlimited rounds of golf at Ken Wo. His final round on the course, and in life, was with Lorna at his side. He was a proud and gentle father and grampy. A life well led; he is dearly missed. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Sarah MacNeil; brother, Gerard; sisters-in-law, Maxine MacClure, Doreen Fraser, and Brenda MacNeil; and brothers-in-law, Ronald Banks, Shelley Pearson, and Teddy Mills. | 1012 | Mildred Christine SCHOFIELD — Hantsport/Mount Denson Age 96, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born in Hants Border, she was the daughter of the late Ebenezer and Sarah (Hutchinson) Beckwith. She was a former member of the Hantsport Historical Society, Lockhartville Womens Institute, Mount Denson Garden Club, Kings Daughters, Red Hatters, Windsor and Hants Border Tops and Hantsport Tea Room Artists. Mum enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping and painting and became quite an accomplished artist in oils, acrylics and water colours. Besides her parents, Mildred was predeceased by her first husband, Alfred Kerr; and second husband, Laurie Schofield; brothers, Stanton, Wilfred, Ross, Don, John, Lee and Cecil; sister, Helen Robinson, and infant sister, Abbey. Special thanks to the caring staff of Dykeland Lodge and Doctors Mark Kazimirski and Cathryn Smith. A funeral service celebrating Mildred’s life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, November 28th, in Hantsport Baptist Church, 6 Willow St., Hantsport, Rev. Jennifer Riley officiating (masks encouraged). | 1013 | Mildred Maude WEST — Kentville Mildred was born on November 24th in Dawson’s Cove, Hermitage, Nfld. She was the third of four children of Curtis and Dorothy (Roberts) Crewe. Mildred attended school in Dawson’s Cove and Hermitage. She loved Newfoundland and often told stories of growing up in a fishing village. Mildred loved jumping the ice flows out in the harbour and getting into loads of trouble. She moved to Halifax in 1949, met Gerald West and they were married in the St. George Anglican Church in June 1950. They moved, with their three sons, Stephen, Kevin and Michael, to the Annapolis Valley in 1958 to a house they built in Lockhartville. Mildred was a member of the Stony Hill Baptist Church in Lockhartville where she sang in the choir for 40 years. She taught Sunday school, was a member of the Minas Wave Seniors, the Lockhartville sewing club and the Lockhartville/Avonport CGIT. She was an honorary member of the Flower Cart Society and the Charles MacDonald House Museum. Mildred was an avid clogger. In 1970, she took a 12-week course in clogging with the Good Time Cloggers in New Minas. After that there was no stopping her. She danced and clogged at any music function, jam or gathering she attended. On more than one occasion, it was rumored that Mildred was seen clogging on a table. She also played the autoharp and a mean set of spoons. Mildred taught cake decorating, made and decorated cakes for all occasions and celebrations (they were as delicious as they were beautiful). Mildred was a quilter, she loved to make quilts, beautiful quilts! We are fortunate to have some in our homes. Her living room was often lost in a huge quilting frame with a group of friends sewing, laughing and chatting. We will always remember her delicious and lively family dinners, especially the Christmas dinners where she would douse the plum pudding with 151 proof rum and light it up. Sometimes we’d have to beat the flames down before the tablecloth caught fire. Mildred and Gerald loved to travel, their journeys took them to Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico. After their retirement, they spent their winters in Florida. Their yearly parties in Evangeline Beach were epic, fun and went until all hours. Mildred loved her family, especially her sons. She was a superhero to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves us with so many wonderful memories and stories. Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; sons, Stephen and Michael; her sister, Anne and brothers, Gerald and Roy Crewe. Mildred has been cremated, as that was her wish. | 1014 | MILES, Reginald Stewart June 27, 1968 July 6, 2019. On Saturday July 6th, Reg passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. He lives on in the lives he touched during his lifetime and in the lives he’s bettering as an organ and tissue donor. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Carl and Marjorie Miles; paternal grandparents, Stewart and Muriel Guptill; and uncle, Billy Thompson. Athletic in his youth, Reg excelled at numerous high school sports and studied Human Services at college in Bellville, Ont. He held various jobs over his lifetime ranging from teaching English and Physical Education in the North, construction, and silviculture. He was most happy and at peace working in the woods. A Celebration of Life will take place at one of Reg’s favourite spots, Penny Beach. | 1015 | MILLER, George Robert 'Bob' 1930-2016. Age 85, of Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2016 in the Hants Community Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born in Windsor, he was the son of the late Herbert and Maude Miller. He was a heavy equipment operator having worked at Fundy Gypsum and also in Halifax. He enjoyed his times at his cottage on Panuke Lake with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bob liked to travel and has been in every province in Canada, some several times, also several states including Alaska. He also enjoyed going south in the winter. Bob liked to read and work in the flower gardens, watching sports and he was a very good carpenter. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brother, Charlie and sister-in-law, Mary Miller and brother-in-law, Harry Turner. | 1018 | MOIR, Elizabeth 'Rose' Age 77, of Hantsport, formerly of Middleton, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020 at home. Rose loved to shop, travel, and garden. Rose owned and managed the Green Leaf Enterprises, a greenhouse and flower shop business in Wilmot until her retirement 13 years ago. She was an Elder and community member of the Glooscap First Nation. She was also an Honourary Elder of the Native Council of Nova Scotia. She was predeceased by her husband, Garland Moir; and her mother, Mary Pictou. | 1019 | Mona Mabel Sanford It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dearest beloved mother who died suddenly Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in Hants Community Hospital, after a long battle with COPD. Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Earl Blanchard and Mabel Dorothy (Cox) Bonn. Mona was married to her late husband, Danny, for 54 years where they settled in Hantsport. She was an active member of Hantsport United Church and worked at CKF for over 25 years. In the early years, Mona loved going out to dances. She was on the Hantsport women's bowling team. Mona loved the Toronto Blue Jays, crocheting, attending family gatherings, and enjoyed playing lawn darts. She loved her grandsons and would often attend their sporting events. Mona had an infectious laugh and her little sayings brought so much laughter to those who knew her. She had a heart of gold, would warm your heart and was our rock. At the age of 53, Mona got her grade 12 GED. She was a role model for her family and understood the value of education, hard work, saving for a raining day and making sacrifices for her family. Over the last few years, Mona enjoyed spending time on her iPad, playing games online with her sister and sister-in-law, connecting with family and friends, and listening to live music on Facebook. She will be sadly missed. She made a big impact on our lives. We are the daughters we are today because of you, Mom. We love you and you'll always be with us. | 1022 | MOORE, Fanny Age 94 of Windsor, formerly of Hants Border, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019 in Haliburton Place, Windsor, her home for the last seven years. Born March 19, 1925 in Bay Roberts, N.L., Fanny was a daughter of the late Edward Ralph and Annie Blanche (Titford) Wilcox. Fanny operated Moore’s Canteen in Hants Border for years. She was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Hantsport, where she was warden and choir member. She was a past member of Rebekah Lodge for 36 years, Hantsport Elders and the Lucknow Branch 109 Ladies Auxiliary, Hantsport. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11th in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 59 Main St., Hantsport, Rev. Tom Henderson officiating. Born in Bareneed, Conception Bay, N.L., he was a son of the late William and Hagar (Boone) Moore. Gordon worked at the Minas Basin Pulp and Power and C.K.F. for 41 years. He was a member of the St. Andrew’s Church in Hantsport and belonged to the Odd Fellows Lodge. Gordon enjoyed going out to breakfast and loved to play bingo. Gordon also had a great love for his church. Gordon was predeceased by brothers, Fred and Augustus Sr.; sister, Gladys; niece, Jennie. | 1025 | MOORE, Marilyn Joan It is with deep sadness that the family of Marilyn Joan Moore, age 69, of Kentville, formerly of Grand Pre and Hantsport, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, she was a daughter of the late Laurie Senior and LaVaughn \'Bonnie\' (Cook) Porter. After attending Horton High School she worked at Stirlings Motel and Restaurant. She was brought up with traditional values and learned skills from her mother like cooking, gardening, sewing and knitting. She was known for these amazing talents and for the love and dedication to her whole family which she was very proud. She enjoyed square dancing, tennis and crafts throughout the years. She turned her love of craft into a mini business. She will always be remembered by her children as a loving mom and wife. We will forever miss her smile and laughter and unwavering sense of humour for everything, especially her husband. Our mother taught us many things with the most important being unconditional love and forgiveness. | 1027 | MOREHOUSE, Oscar W. - 95, Hantsport, passed away in Victoria, B.C., on March 4, 2008. Born in Centreville, Digby Co., he was the son of the late Nelson and Ada Morehouse. During the Second World War he served with the RCAF in Britain and North Africa. A machinist by trade, he was employed for many years in Hantsport and later in Wolfville. He was a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, P.D.D.G.M., and recipient of the 50 year Jewel. He was predeceased in 2006 by his beloved wife, Ruth (Turner), and earlier by sisters, Rita, Vera and Murial (all of the United States). Throughout all their retirement years in Victoria, he and Ruth had frequent contact with their many friends in Nova Scotia, and with the Hantsport Baptist Church as members. Their cremated remains have returned "home" for interment in Riverbank Cemetery, and a memorial service for both of them will be held on April 30 at 2 p.m. in Hantsport Baptist Church, Rev. D. — It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother, Grace W. D. (Crouse) (Anderson) Morine, Avonport, Kings Co. on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born on January 25, 1916, in Branch LaHave, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Ella (Seraten) (Misner) Crouse. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her first husband, Orlo Anderson in 1970; her second husband, (James) Byron Morine in 2008; sisters, Lydia Crouse, Hilda Frank, Doris Crouse, Lorna Wentzell and Muriel Frank; brothers, Oran, Moyle, Harold, Garland, Doran, Walter, Lloyd, Eugene and Earlen; granddaughters, Jacqueline Lockhart, in infancy, and Andrea Karen Lockhart; sons-in-law, George Eastman and Dale Forsythe; step son-in-law, Gerald Allen. As a very young woman, she was a \'nanny\' for several families in Halifax. She worked along side of her first husband, Orlo, for many years on the family farm on River Road, Avonport. She also worked for a number of years at the fruit and vegetable cannery in Port Williams and for 13 years at CKF, Hantsport. Grace enjoyed many years camping with the Autumn Leaves Chapter of the NCHA along with her husband, Byron. The few years she lived in Hantsport, she was a faithful member of Helping Hand Rebekah Lodge No. 40 (Kings Daughter’s) and a member of the Hantsport Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Silver and Gold Club, Wolfville and a member of the Avonport United Baptist Church. She was a hard worker her entire life and always put the welfare of her family before herself. Her greatest love was for her family; nothing delighted her more than to hear from family members close by and those who were living away. In her senior years, she really enjoyed knitting, crocheting and doing her \'Word Find\' puzzles! | 1032 | MORRIS, Claude Hamilton - 81, Bridgetown, passed away April 23, 2008, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Wards Brook, he was the son of the late Hamilton and Susan (Ayer) Morris. He received his early education at Hants Border and Hantsport schools. He was a veteran of the Second World War and the Korean War. He had a total of over 30 years service in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps, with service in three regiments: RCD's, LDSH (RC) and, the 8th Canadian Hussars. He had several postings in Canada, Japan, Korea and Germany. His last posting was to CFB Cornwallis where he retired in 1975. After his military service, he worked at the Bridgetown Home Hardware for a number of years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and many other sports, especially baseball. He was an amateur genealogist, collecting the history of his family, Morris and Spicer. He was predeceased by sister, Barbara Peach. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A private graveside service will be held in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. | 1034 | MORSE, John Allison 'Pup' Age 93, of Hantsport. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, John A. Morse, in R.E. A.L. Residence, Windsor, on Thursday, April 4, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Berwick, on July 2, 1925, he was a son of the late P. Lloyd and Martha (Loomer) Morse. Educated in Berwick, he also attended Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, and Business College in Halifax. In his early years, he worked on the family farm and in the mid 1940’s he drove a taxi for H. E. Margeson in the Berwick area. In 1949, he was hired by R.A. Jodrey as an accountant for Minas Basin Pulp and Power retiring as Treasurer in 1989. He was a lifetime Mason, receiving his 60 year Masonic Jewel from Poyntz Lodge No. 44 A.F. & A.M. He was a faithful member and former Trustee of Hantsport Baptist Church; former member of the Hantsport School Board, Hantsport Memorial Community Centre and Hantsport Town Council. He enjoyed playing crib his entire adult life, teaching his children and grandchildren, and especially, playing in his retirement years with his cribbage pals in Hantsport. John grew up in a large farming family and remained close and dedicated to his siblings. He was also proud of the annual Horseshoe Tournament he hosted at his cottage every Labour Day weekend. | 1036 | MOSHER, Ervin Clyde It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and Grampie on June 14, 2016, at the age of 65, with his family at his side. Ervin was born in Wolfville and was the only child of Earl and Dorothy (Banes) Mosher. Erv spent his childhood in Wolfville, largely at the Acadia Ice Palace, where he played hockey and later maintained the ice. In his early years, Erv was a member of the Wolfville Volunteer Fire Department for nearly a decade and after a short career as a meat-cutter and painter, followed his father into what would be his life’s work - policing. Erv started as a Special Constable with the Wolfville Police Department and in 1975 moved to the Hantsport Police Department, where he had the occasion to meet a young clerk at the Hantsport Town Office (he and Brenda would later be married in 1986). He returned to the Wolfville Police Department in 1991 and became a member of the RCMP when it absorbed the policing role in Wolfville in 2000. Erv was then transferred to Hants County in 2004 where he worked for both Windsor Municipal and Rural RCMP Detachments. Erv concluded his career as a Community Policing Officer in Hantsport. However, before Erv’s retirement, he presented his son, Justin, his RCMP badge upon his graduation of becoming an RCMP Officer in Regina in 2009. Erv went into policing because he wanted to make a difference; in his 37 years he faithfully served the public, relentlessly teased his partners and colleagues, and was a consummate professional to those he helped. Many a story of \'Mosher\' has and will be told. Erv was a loyal, lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Maple Leafs, and a season ticket holder for Acadia Axemen hockey. He took great pride in his home and property and could often be found somewhere in his well-manicured yard. Despite a fulfilling professional and family life, Ervin had always felt that something was missing. This void was filled when he became a member of Mount Denson Baptist Church and was baptized in 2014. Erv attended church regularly and took great pride in singing in the choir. All of this brought him great comfort and peace, particularly during his final fight. | 1037 | MOUNCE, Charles A. \'Chuck\' Age 80, of Hantsport, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 26, 2013, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on December 11, 1932 in Windsor, he was a son of the late Andrew and Ethel (Drysdale) Mounce. Chuck attended Windsor Academy and Kings Edgehill School, and worked 39 years with Maritime Tel & Tel. He was a past member of the Windsor Curling Club and Avon Valley Golf and Country Club. Chuck retired from the Hantsport Fire Department as Deputy Chief and was a life member of Telephone Pioneers. Some of Chuck’s best times were spent with his firefighting comrades and a good round of golf with friends and family. An avid sports fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Ottawa Senators, he loved watching his grandchildren compete in all their sports. She is survived by five sons, John Scott, Cecil Scott, And George Scott, all of Hantsport; Fred Scott, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Charles Barkhouse, Edmonton, Alta.; four daughters, Susie (Mrs. Ralph Starrett), Eileen (Mrs. Fred Best), and Maud (Mrs. Ivan Oickle), all of Hantsport; and Jessie (Mrs. Bert Willeger), Parrsboro; three sisters, Mary (Mrs. George Colby) and Mandy (Mrs. Edward Pinch), both of Hantsport; and Frances (Mrs. Roy Margeson), Kentville; one brother, Joseph, Hantsport; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
