WALKER, Janis Maria — 60, of Bishopville, formerly of Greenwood, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Mary (Jeremy) Francis.
Janis lived on Glooscap First Nation, Bishopville at the time of her death and prior to this lived in Greenwood for 25 years. She graduated from Mac’s Business College in 1967. Janis was employed at CFB Greenwood (14 Wing) for 25 years. She later became the National President for the Native Women Association of Canada. Janis was also a Councillor and Band Manager for the Glooscap First Nation for 28 years. She loved to travel and was to various places around the world. Although Janis never had any children, she certainly was a mother to each and every one she loved. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Earl in 2007; birth mother, Freda (Francis) Lynch; brothers, Gordon, Billy and Stanley. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Kingston.
