    Archibald Holmes A retired civil engineer, Archibald Rettie (Rett) Holmes, 86, of 1169 Argyle Rd died Tuesday at Metropolitan Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Nova Scotia and came to Windsor three years ago. Mr. Holmes was a member of St. Mary's Anglican Church and the Professional Engineers of Canada. He is survived by his widow, Florence; three daughter, Mrs. John Broughall (Helen), Toronto; Mrs. William Pretty (Elizabeth), Pennsylvania, and Mrs. John Reid (Margeret), Windsor, and one brother, George, New Jersey. There are seven grandchildren. The body will rest at the Walter D. Kelly Funeral Home, Wyandotte St. E. at Devonshire Rd., until Thursday at 9 a.m. The funeral will be held at St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m. Canoa F. C. McRitchie will officiate. The body will be transferred to the A. W. Miles Funeral Home in Toronto for services and burial Friday.

    Captain Peleg Holmes 3rd. Born 1785 at Yarmouth N.S. married 1st 1806, Mary Trefry, 2nd married Mary Lockhart of Horton. When he removed to Halfway River with his wife and family, in 1820 they brought 8 children with them. In 1821 he bought land from Peter Coalfleet and Sam Beckwith, and settled in Lower Horton. When the Baptist Church was organized in 1830 he was ordained Deacon. Thereafter, he was generally addressed as Deacon or Deacon Peleg Holmes. His house was just across the Horton-Falmouth Township line, on the Bluff Road. He resided there all of his life. Peleg died December 3rd. 1856. Buried in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.

    Peleg married Mary Emily Lockhart. Mary (daughter of Daniel Lockhart and Lydia Irish) was born about 1802 in Horton Twp., Kings, Nova Scotia; died on 7 Jan 1872 in Hantsport, Hants, Nova Scotia; was buried in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, Hants, Nova Scotia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
